Tax Manager, Americas

The Tax Manager, Americas works in close cooperation with all members of the world-wide tax team regarding the global income tax accounting function, including process management and enhancement and setting strategic direction for the tax accounting function. The Tax Manager, Americas is responsible for review of the U.S. federal and state income tax returns compliance and other filings; this includes complete responsibility for all federal and state audits. 

 

Extended Job Description:

The Tax Manager, Americas works in close cooperation with all members of the world-wide tax team regarding the global income tax accounting function, including process management and enhancement and setting strategic direction for the tax accounting function. The Tax Manager, Americas is responsible for review of the U.S. federal and state income tax returns compliance and other filings; this includes complete responsibility for all federal and state audits. 

 

Primary responsibilities / Key result areas

  • Build comprehensive defense research files relative to all tax compliance submissions;
  • Manage FAS109 tax accounting and provision process including:
    • Current and deferred tax provision
    • Monitor effective tax rate
    • Monthly closing of tax accounts
    • Mid-year and year-end external audit
  • Work closely with other departments to identify any issues that impact the federal income tax filings in order to identify risks and propose solutions
  • Review and filing of the Federal income tax return and all supporting schedules and disclosures.
  • Review of the State and Local Income, Franchise and all other related filings.
  • Manage federal and state tax audits including the preparation of appeal notifications and general correspondence.  Represents SES directly in front of IRS agents during the audit cycle.
  • Manage tax vendor relationships with attention to efficient management of vendor resources on tax planning and risk management projects on which they are engaged.
  • Risk management to monitor SES departmental and system changes in treasury, accounting, legal, accounts payable and vendor management and to ascertain their effects on SES tax positions.
  • Monitor changes in non-tax areas of accounting with attention to the potential effects on tax compliance and risk management.

  • Uses depth of knowledge and expertise, taking account of the impact on the organization and the industry to tackle the most complex of issues often in un-explored territory such as new tax legislation and interpreting and applying judicial decisions to SES facts and structures
  • Knowledge of tax compliance systems with focus on process improvement.
  • Strong working knowledge of financial statements.
     
    Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A. /B.S.) or equivalent in Finance, Accounting or related discipline, a CPA or MST
  • 10+ years of tax experience in the areas of compliance, research, audits and systems
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Excel, Word, OneSource Federal and State Income tax compliance software, OneSource Provision and Checkpoint research tools, Lotus Notes, PowerPoint. SAP and Cognos preferred
