(Junior) Engineer, Spacecraft Payload

ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
SES France is looking for a (Junior) Engineer, Spacecraft Payload to be assigned to our Field Office located in Toulouse at the Thales Alenia Space facility (the Supplier) and support the supervision of the procurement, integration and testing of the advanced communication payloads of various SES spacecrafts. In this role you will actively review, assess, challenge all development/procurement activities undertaken by the Supplier with respect to the Company’s contractual requirements, with the ultimate objective of delivering fully compliant payloads on schedule.
You will be responsible for (this is not an exhaustive list):
- Ensure that the specification of each payload equipment unit is consistent with meeting the end-to-end system performance and functional requirements and that the test procedures comply with the contractual requirements
- Actively participate in design, test readiness, failure review meetings at manufacturer sub- and prime- contractor facilities as needed
- Monitor the manufacturing flow of the payload components thru build, test and integration into the next higher assembly
- Review and approve manufacturing and test documentation
- Track the daily payload activities at spacecraft manufacturer facility, in coordination with co-workers in the field office
- Make sure that all payload nonconformances and deviations are timely reviewed and assessed, by seeking concurrence from the Program Manager and from relevant experts within the Company
- Communicate day to day to the Program Manager about Payload progress and potential issues affecting the procurement program
YOUR PROFILE:
Must Have
- Diploma in engineering, with preferably a specialization in telecommunication or electrical engineering
- First hands-on experience or exposure in either payload procurement, payload equipment manufacturing or payload in-orbit operations
- Proficiency in English in written and spoken forms.
- Provide 24/7 on call support during payload system testing
- Willingness to travel in Europe and/or internationally from time to time
Nice to Have
- Taste for technical matters and desire to learn
- Knowledge in geostationary communication payload architectures and functional operations, covering several of the following aspects:
- RF equipment, repeater and antenna subsystems
- Link budgets
- Repeater RF performance measurement
- Integration and testing
- Quality control essentials
- Competency in Digital Signal Processing (DSP), Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) technology and active antenna
- Basic knowledge of satellite platform engineering principle
- Highly collaborative individual, able to build relationships internally and externally across all levels and functions
- Capacity to deal with complex situations with assertiveness
