Solutions Engineer, mPOWER 3

ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The mPOWER Solutions Engineer is the primary technical point of contact for prospective and existing customers transitioning to the mPOWER constellation. In this role you will be an integral member of the global SES Solutions Engineering team, providing support in all aspects of defining, developing and implementing solutions for customer’s service requirements using the full suite of products and services, using both the SES GEO and the O3b MEO satellite assets and ground networks.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY RESULTS AREAS

  • Coordinate end-to-end satellite-centric system designs that meet/exceed customer requirements;
  • Define appropriate KPI’s to monitor system and solution performance;
  • Ensure alignment with key stakeholders;
  • Determination and allocation of resources necessary to accomplish the system design and implementation;
  • Support design of technical tools to assist in the recommendations of the system or its utilization by non-technical internal or external customers;
  • Apply segment specific knowledge to develop efficient solutions for global customer base;
  • Respond within strict and short deadlines to Request for Proposals (RFPs) and tenders;
  • Perform analysis and critique of different architectures according to customer requirements;
  • Support customer meetings to define technical requirements and provide viable solutions;
  • Attend technical external trade shows/panel discussions relating to SES MEO/GEO constellations;
  • Maintain awareness of and spur development of space and ground hardware in line with SES’s strategic plan;
  • Interact with Corporate Development, Marketing, customer-facing entities and the other relevant areas as required to further the success of the mPOWER constellation;
  • Compose, present and maintain training packages for Solutions Engineering and wider stakeholders
  • Learn and utilize existing technical tools, or develop as required, to assist in the achievement of the technical solution;
  • Contribute to the development and success of specific mPOWER product definitions. Provide technical input and commercial awareness for customer products;
  • Provide support to the innovation activities in the respective area of expertise, bringing into SES fresh knowledge acquired in academia and recent work experience;
  • Contribute to specific innovation related projects as they would be identified;
  • Provide training to customers both internal and external on SES Networks services and products;
  • On all above areas, the expected outputs are: clear, concise, timely and constructive contributions and recommendations regarding all areas referred to above, based on solid engineering knowledge and experience.

 

COMPETENCIES

  • Technical knowledge: Proficiency in satellite transmission analysis and complex solution engineering. Extended knowledge of satellite design, Broadcasting technologies, VSAT networks, network architecture, access schemes, data networking, engineering software development and radio frequency propagation analysis;
  • Technical knowledge: Proficiency in satellite antenna theory, satellite antenna tracking systems, Amplifier operation and satellite modem operation including understanding of DVBS2x, ACM and Modulation/Demodulation operation.
  • Orchestration/Automation: Knowledge of multiple arrangement technologies/features in addition to automated operation of single/multiple tasks;
  • Experience and knowledge of Internet Protocol (IP) networks, access routing, BGP/MPLS, IP Peering and SDN, networking technologies as well as international Carrier services;
  • Understanding of Central and Edge architecture and impact to customer service/experience. Ability to discuss Big Data Analytics, Network Intelligence and Machine Learning, Service & Network Orchestration, Closed Loop Automation.
  • Networking topology skills to include Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), Lifecycle Orchestration (LSO), Open Network Automation Platform (ONAP) and Management and Organization (MANO).
  • Innovative thinking: Networking knowledge to a level whereby the integration of 5G services with Cloud Services will dramatically impact a customer’s business or service;
  • Excellent Negotiation & Communication skills: Ability to efficiently assist Sales in creating winning technical proposals. Good presentation techniques and effective sales proposal skills. Ability to work effectively in structured or virtual teams. Ability to speak with C level customer staff and drive technical strategic deals;
  • Excellent Customer Relation skills: Build and maintain relationships with customers guides by the capture team leader to retain and grow revenues and margins as well as the ability to gain a clear understanding of the customers’ businesses and requirements and be able to offer the customer bespoke advice upon forthcoming product developments or services that could lead to new sales and/or to service optimizations;
  • Market intelligence & new technology developments: In this highly competitive market it is necessary to have an ongoing knowledge and understanding of the market and developments in the customer base. Specific trends or shifts in the market need to be monitored, tracked, analyzed and reported to management or other parts of the organization;
  • Regional knowledge: With customers and staff located in different regions of the world, it is key to understand the variances within the region and as such the differences in market settings, customers’ expectations & requirements to be able to determine the different necessary strategies;
  • Talent for technology, interest in both theory and practical work
  • Ability to interface with business and other technical areas within SES and work both autonomous and in interdisciplinary teams including ability to take responsibility for work packages and topics
  • Writing skills for technical documents including specifications and studies
  • Good communication skills and team-spirit
  • Willingness to integrate into an international environment
  • A demonstrated ability to work across organizational boundaries

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor in Electrical Engineering/Communications/Computer Science (MSc, PHD) being an asset;
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience as well as global market experience;
  • Extensive knowledge and experience on GEO and preferably MEO services;
  • Professional network qualifications necessary e.g. Cisco/MEF certifications;
  • Knowledge of satellite transmission analysis and optimization;
  • Knowledge of satellite access technologies and earth station components;
  • Hands on knowledge of the design and architecture of Enterprise and Telecommunications Networks, including Fixed Data/Maritime/Aero/Energy; access networks implementation and operation including troubleshooting faults and service difficulties;
  • Strong knowledge and experience in IP based networks and services;
  • Global/Regional market experience and business cultural awareness;
  • Knowledge of English is essential. Additional regional languages desirable;
  • Excellent communication ability, both in written and verbal;
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation and sales proposal skills;
  • Willing to travel internationally and meet directly with clients;
  • Ability to work effectively in a global high energy multicultural team;
  • Knowledge of project financial structure and company financial structures an advantage;
