Senior Analyst, Credit Risk Management

ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The primary task of the Senior Analyst, Credit Risk Management is to protect SES from credit losses. You manage the credit risk assessment during the lead-to-order process and monitor SES customer portfolio from a credit risk perspective. You own the relevant credit risk management tools. You will back up the Credit & Collection (C&C) Performance Analysis and Reporting function as required.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY RESULT AREAS

Credit Risk Management

  • Co-own with the Head of C&C, the SES Credit Policy and makes pro-active suggestions for ongoing improvement of the policy, reflecting SES organizational structure, business environment, IFRS developments as well as balancing credit risk and SES’s commercial interests. Propose rules for payment terms, collaterals, credit limits, provisioning, suspension, termination and backloading and fully understand the impact of such rules on SES Financials
  • Own, develop and maintain IT tools and business processes to conduct timely credit checks during the lead-to-order process. Own and maintain credit risk classification mechanisms and methodologies which are the basis for the subsequent credit risk management
  • Assess credit risk of specific customers, prepare credit risk reports and make recommendations and validate payment terms, collaterals, credit limits and revenue backloading. Manage escalation process in case of disagreement
  • Provide credit risk assessment to Asset Management as an input to the business opportunity evaluation in case of capacity contention
  • Work with the Product Development teams to define and agree on C&C attributes of new products, e.g. default payment terms, collaterals, credit limits, suspension and termination mechanisms
  • Conducts desk research and interacts directly with customers as required to complete the credit risk assessment, e.g. requests additional financial and business information, conduct interviews and visit customers for face-to-face meetings and on-site due diligence
  • Monitor SES customer portfolio and propose a course of action in case of changes of the credit risk profile of individual key customers, industry sectors or countries. Develop and maintain customer blacklist
  • Manage all relationships with credit insurance providers, e.g. frame contracts, customer-specific insurances, claims and litigation
  • Work with C&C from other locations to share credit risk management best practices

C&C Performance Analysis and Reporting

  • Build up a mutual backup relationship with the Financial Analyst, Credit & Collection, performing monthly business analysis, reporting and closing tasks
  • Train the Financial Analyst, Credit & Collection to ensure fulfillment of basic credit risk management tasks, e.g. credit checks, in case of absence of the Senior Analyst, Credit Risk Management

 

COMPETENCIES

  • Ability to understand Finance Strategy and to assess the impact on the C&C strategy and Credit Policy
  • Ability to define C&C objectives accordingly and drive implementation
  • Ability to proactively identify the need for change, implement accordingly and assume responsibility
  • Ability to use in-depth knowledge, commercial expertise and business acumen, in particular in terms of outside-in credit risk assessments to mitigate SES credit risk while supporting Sales to drive top line
  • Professionalism to assume responsibility for the outcome of credit risk assessments that have a major impact on SES financial results, particularly in terms of bad debt and revenue provisions and write-offs as well as backloading
  • Good relationship builder (e.g. with Sales and with Customers), understand and accommodate – sometimes conflicting - needs of internal and external customers
  • Aptitude to communicate complex C&C matters particularly credit risk assessments at the appropriate level of granularity depending on the audience
  • Strong team player, able to energize and motivate peers (e.g. Finance, Sales, Com. Operations, Legal)

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Management
  • Minimum 5 years C&C  or finance experience
  • Strong business acumen and proficiency in interpreting financial statements. Financial audit experience and due diligence track record are considered as an important asset
  • Very solid understanding of credit risk management associated with B2B service-related contracts
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, SAP ECC and BPC, Microsoft Power BI
  • Extensive experience in using and interpreting credit analysis tools, such as BvD’s Credit Catalyst
  • Excellent knowledge of English both verbal and written, and at least one other language, e.g. French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic
