Senior Engineer, Parts, Materials and Process

In this role you will be responsible for the quality standard of parts, materials and production processes applied into the construction of SES satellites. You will be responsive to provide meticulous resident product assurance engineering support to all phases of the spacecraft construction, including Design, Assembly, Integration, and Launch Campaign. You will be part of the SES Resident Field Office Team located at spacecraft manufacturer premises. You will lead the Field Office in effectively executing the contractual Product Assurance Plan and quality oversight of all aspects of the project.


Extended Job Description:


  • Verify manufacturer and subcontractors follow internal and SES requirements regarding product assurance plans
  • Support technical review of nonconformances of hardware and software and ensure root cause and corrective actions implemented according to review boards
  • Investigate high reliability part supplier deviations and exceptions
  • Report on quality escapes at the manufacture and subcontractor facilities include GIDEPs, cross manufacturer issues, and problems reported on other spacecraft
  • Support in depth inspections of hardware at manufacturer and suppliers’ facilities against engineering requirements and documentation
  • Review final test and inspection reports to ensure work was satisfactorily completed and all non-conformances are resolved
  • Ensure specifications of equipment meets the end-to-end system performance and functional requirements
  • Manage the Field Office Quality Assurance engineering resources to support failure investigation, analysis, root cause determination and corrective action process.
  • Mentor the Field Office in Quality Assurance roles and responsibilities
  • Prepare and negotiate SES spacecraft Product Assurance procurement requirements and ensure these are appropriately reflected in related contractual documents, as requested
  • Ensure all unit, subsystem and system test procedures comply with the contractual requirements
  • Participate in design, test readiness, material and failure review meetings at manufacturer sub- and prime-contractor facilities as needed
  • Critically examine the anomaly investigation results in root cause analysis and verify corrective actions are implemented
  • Monitor flow of components through build, test and integration into next higher assembly
  • Monitor daily activities at spacecraft manufacturer facility
  • Ensure that the program action items are adequately addressed and closed
  • Support summary reports of issues and recommended actions
  • Provide 24/7 on call support during system testing and single line flow
  • Support launch site activities in preparation for launch

  • This position requires the candidate to access controlled technical data subject to US export control laws. Therefore, only candidates who are US citizens (by birth or naturalization), legal US permanent residents (i.e., green card holders), US nationals, asylees, refugees, other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, or who can otherwise meet federal export-control authorization requirements, are eligible.  
  • Bachelor's degree and 8 years of experience, Master's degree and 6 years of experience or Doctorate degreee and 4 years of experience in the Parts, Materials and Process or Spacecraft Assurance field
  • A combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Good understanding of Spacecraft Product Assurance specifications and guidelines, specifically, NASA and ESA ECSS standards
  • Advanced experience with root cause analysis
  • Moderate experience with satellite design, integration and testing
  • Moderate experience in spacecraft specifications, design analyses, and test procedures
  • 30% domestic and international travel



  • Experience with MEO or GEO satellite operations and design

  • Experience with resolving day to day issues with manufacturer and program teams
  • Experience with AIAA, IEEE, Mil Standards, NASA, and ESA spacecraft standards
