PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY RESULT AREAS

As a Senior Network Engineer, you will be a valuable team member on our Enterprise Network Operations team supporting SES’s Corporate and Commercial Aviation Networks and Security infrastructure.  This individual will be part of a team responsible for the implementation and troubleshooting of SES’s growing network and datacenter presence around the world.  You will lead and assist with various projects that will challenge your skills with routing, switching, security, VoIP, and multi-media services including inflight entertainment.  This position will work with and manage vendor relations and could have a voice in the purchase/quote process, as our business continues to expand. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, possesses deep troubleshooting skills, and understands the delicate balance between network uptime and security compliance.

 

  • Troubleshoot and resolve network issues involving Intelsat switches, routers, circuits, etc.
  • Troubleshoot issues with our Palo Alto and Juniper firewall platform as well as implement policy rule changes to facilitate new services and connectivity.
  • Document changes to all SES infrastructure to include Visio diagrams, spreadsheets, and cloud-based tracking and documentation software.
  • Collaborate with Network Engineering on the implementation, buildout, decommissioning, and refresh of SES teleports, datacenters, and sales offices.
  • Coordinate with system design and network operations for existing data expansion, consolidation, and relocation.
  • Manage vendor relationships to get their equipment specs, list prices and other vendor information.
  • Collaborate with Network Engineering on the development of floor plan layouts for datacenters and corporate offices.
  • Develop equipment purchase orders, track orders, and arrange implementation with remote hands if not traveling for datacenter and corporate office related equipment.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5-7 years’ hands-on experience working in large complex network / datacenter environments specifically managing Cisco, Palo Alto, Juniper and F5 hardware.
  • Strong command of Cisco IOS, IOS-XE, and NX-OS, PAN-OS, JUNOS, F5 and Linux command-line interfaces.
  • Advanced knowledge of Switching technologies to include, Spanning Tree (RPVST+, MST), LACP, VLANs, and Trunking.
  • Proficient with routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, RIPv2, MPLS, HSRP, VRRP, GLBP, SD-WAN)
  • Working knowledge of F5 load balancing to include monitoring and troubleshooting load balancing VIPs, pools, and health monitors to minimize downtime and ensure seamless failover across multi-data center environments
  • Working knowledge of Linux Operating system to include monitoring, automation of operational tasks, and troubleshooting Linux parameters, file systems, and network stacks to maximize performance for high-throughput applications.
  • Working knowledge with dual homing service providers and ISP redundancy
  • Extensive experience working with Cisco hardware including switches, routers, ASRs, ASA, FWSM, IPS, load balancers, Nexus
  • Hands-on troubleshooting skills to include Wireshark packet capture debugging and analysis.
  • In depth knowledge of security protocols, TACACS, RADIUS, different flavors of VPN and remote access.
  • Experience with Telco services, T1, DS3, SONET, OC3 – 192.
  • Datacenter design, redundancy and failover experience a plus
  • Racking various types of networks and server equipment.
  • Documentation skills for datacenter, corporate office, and remote sales offices.
  • Cage cable management experience.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills of datacenter and office network environments.

OTHER KEY REQUIREMENTS / COMMENTS

  • CCNP Enterprise (Cisco Certified Network Professional) OR equivalent
  • PCNSA (Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Administrator)
