Associate Legal Counsel

ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The incumbent provides assistance in all legal and contractual matters to support the activities of the Legal Commercial team.

 

S/he acts as a trusted business partner to the commercial teams and provides pro-active, value-added legal support and on commercial matters to enable transactions. S/he actively advises and counsels on legal issues, including risk assessment and avoidance.

 

S/he also provides support and guidance on a variety of legal matters to other company divisions on an as needed basis.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY RESULT AREAS

  • Structure, draft, negotiate and finalize contracts ensuring compliance with applicable national and international laws and regulations
  • Conduct research and draft memoranda in various legal fields
  • Provide assistance to SES’s affiliates and subsidiaries on legal aspects as requested
  • Provide support and advice in legal matters in various functions
  • Ability to communicate succinctly, diplomatically and credibly at all levels within the organisation
  • Collaborative individual, able to build relationships across all levels and functions of the organization
  • Clear and candid communicator able to produce and present to a variety of internal and external audiences
  • Provide timely and effective legal advice to the commercial groups in support of their respective projects, contracts and initiatives including bids and public/private partnership initiatives

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree or LLM in law
  • Bar qualification would be of advantage
  • One to three years of post-qualification experience in a law firm or legal department of a company would be of advantage
  • Experience in the telecommunication/media sector would be of advantage

OTHER KEY REQUIREMENTS / COMMENTS

  • Computer literacy (word, excel, power point)
  • Fluency in English, both oral and written, is a must
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
