Senior Service Engineer, IRIS2 MEO
PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION
IRIS2 is the new European Union secure satellite constellation. This project is the European Union's answer to the pressing challenges of tomorrow to provide secure connectivity services and enhanced communication capacities to the EU and its Member States as well as to governmental users, private companies and European citizens while ensuring high-speed internet broadband to cope with connectivity dead zones.
SES – together with other consortium partners and core members - was selected by European Commission to build and to operate the IRIS2 multi-orbit satellite constellation.
The IRIS2 team enters the next project phase and there is a strong need for support for all the activities around service provisioning and products that the system can offer in the future.
ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
You will be part of an agile project organization where a flexible way of working and an adaptive mindset is required.
In your role you are responsible for defining and evolving the technical aspects of Governmental and Commercial services in the MEO satellite layer of the IRIS2 programme. You are cooperating with other functions such as the IRIS2 LEO-H role. This includes, among others, conceptualizing service concepts of operations, setting performance objectives and indicators, and shaping requirements to ensure optimal service delivery and monitoring.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Definition of Service CONOPs (Concept of Operations):
- Develop and maintain detailed service operation models for the MEO layer in cooperation with the Service Engineering team and under the coordination of the Service Programme Leader.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (System engineering) and Stakeholders (EC, EUSPA) to align operational concepts.
Support on the Definition of Governmental Service KPIs:
- Co-develop the refinement of definition of Service KPIs (measurement methodology, target values) in coordination with the System Engineering stream and under the coordination of the Service Programme Leader.
Elaboration of Service Requirements (Performance, Provisioning, Monitoring) for IRIS2:
- Translate market demand and High-Level CONOPs into clear technical HG Service requirements, in collaboration within the Service Engineering team and in coordination with the Product Management team.
- Take ownership of or contribute to the production, review and delivery of the required documentation, as assigned to by the group leadership
- Outline provisioning and monitoring parameters to ensure service stability and scalability.
Lead Elaboration of Product Requirements for MEO Commercial Products:
- Translate Product conceptualization and High-Level CONOPs into clear technical service requirements in coordination with the MEO NextGen Product Development team and the System Engineering team.

QUALIFICATIONS, BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE
- Master’s degree level in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Telecommunications Engineering
- At least 5 years of professional experience in a relevant industry – Satellite or Telecommunications business
- A similar assignment - ideally, experience working on large projects with EU or ESA level requirements
- Fluency in English (any other language being an asset)
OTHER KEY REQUIREMENTS
- The candidate must be eligible for a “SECRET” security clearance, in accordance with the “loi modifiée du 15 juin 2004 relative à la classification des pièces et aux habilitations de sécurité”, as well as EU/ESA/NATO equivalents
- Willing to work at least 66% onsite from office
- Travel as required for project realization purposes
