Senior Engineer, IRIS2 Facilities

ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

We are seeking a skilled, motivated Facilities Engineer to support the design, delivery, and operation of our technical facilities. This role combines electrical and mechanical engineering expertise with physical security awareness, ensuring that our sites are safe, efficient, and fully operational. The incumbent will move in a very dynamic and diverse environment, in which they will cooperate at multiple levels with SES colleagues assigned to the IRIS2 programme, and with Consortium partners, while interacting with external stakeholders, the like of European Commission’s and EU Member States’ representatives.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY RESULT AREAS

Engineering & Technical Operations

- Support the design, operation, and maintenance of electrical and mechanical systems (power infrastructure, HVAC, fire protection, BMS, networking infrastructure, etc)

- Troubleshoot technical issues and support high availability of critical systems

- Contribute to maintenance planning and continuous improvement initiatives

Physical Security

- Support implementation and operation of physical security systems (access control, CCTV, perimeter security)

- Coordinate with security providers and internal stakeholders

- Assist in audits and incident response

Projects & Construction

- Support infrastructure and construction project delivery from design to completion

- Coordinate contractors and stakeholders

- Participate in testing, commissioning, and handover

Operations & Support (Future oriented)

- Assist in day-to-day facility operations and contractor coordination

- Maintain documentation and technical drawings

- Support cost control and efficiency improvements

Environmental Health & Safety (Future oriented)

- Support health & safety processes and emergency preparedness

- Contribute to energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives

Documentation

- Contribute to the production of comprehensive internal and deliverable documentation, along the guidelines provided by the customer, as interpreted and assigned by the workstream lead.

  • Ability to work independently and with limited supervision in complex environments, including matrixed or multi-stakeholder projects flexibility and adaptability in response to evolving project requirements and dynamic environments

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Construction Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in facilities engineering, infrastructure, or construction projects
  • Experience in designing/developing physical security systems
  • Fluency in English (French or German is a plus)

OTHER KEY REQUIREMENTS / COMMENTS

  • The candidate must be eligible for a “SECRET” security clearance, in accordance with the national regulations as well as EU/ESA/NATO equivalents
  • Willing to work 60% onsite from office
  • Travel as required for project realization purposes
