Team Leader, Accounting Operations (Americas)

Role Description Summary:

Based in Manassas, Virginia, you will lead the accounting operations for SES group entities across multiple jurisdictions in North and South America. You will ensure that you and your team fully understand the scope of the requirements defined by the Head of Accounting, Consolidation, and Reporting and deliver high-quality, and timely, financial information to the group. With a good business understanding of the entities assigned to you, you will provide high-quality analysis and validation of the numbers generated by yourself and the Accounting Operations team. You may also be involved in group-wide projects and activities requiring a high level of technical expertise, judgment, and experience.

Extended Job Description:

 

Primary Responsibilities/Key Result Areas:

  • Lead a regional team of accounting professionals and service providers, ensuring that the scope of their responsibilities, as defined by the Head of Accounting, Consolidation, and Reporting, are clearly understood and implemented, specifically concerning the:

-Completeness and documentation of financial records

-Compliance of the financial records with SES policies and procedures

-Fulfilment of regulatory obligations associated with each entity

-Financial analysis over the entity, or subgroups of entities

  • Perform the accounting close and prepare account reconciliations for certain entities in the Americas
  •  Ensure that all relevant entities are provided with a full and competent Accounting Operations service with backup relationships established and tested
  • Oversight over external accounting service providers
  • Support the Head of Accounting, Consolidation, and Reporting in group-wide operations and projects
  • Act as the interface to the Accounting Operations team in the Americas for other Finance, and non-Finance colleagues
  • Ensure that any compliance issues from internal or external audits relating to his/her allocated companies are swiftly remediated
  • Support group-level projects such as SAP developments, the accounting impact of specific transactions, as well as the implementation of changes in group policies or new IFRS requirements
  • Manage local financial statements audits ensuring timely completion and avoiding any adjustments
  • Develop, manage, coach, and motivate the Accounting Operations team to be a highly effective unit

Preferred Education & Experience (a combination of education and experience will be considered):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • Certified Public Accountant
  • More than eight years’ experience in accounting operations preferably in an international organization
  • Fluency in English, both oral and written. Other relevant foreign languages an asset
