Senior Engineer, Software

Role description summary

As a senior member of the Software Engineering staff, you are responsible for the specification, design, development and support of software applications.  You will also support teams specifying on premise and cloud-based infrastructure needs for real-tie system operation as well as offline tools to support engineering analysis.

Primary responsibilities / Key result areas

  • Lead and work with an experienced team using Agile methodologies
  • Execute performance engineering and optimization, proof of concept testing, deployment planning and acceptance testing
  • Develop high-quality software requirements, designs and architectures
  • Define and build APIs for a layered architecture
  • Perform peer reviews, integration testing, and validation during the software development lifecycle
  • Implement and improve development cycle and continuous integration automation software
  • Work with external vendors and internal operations staff to provide technical expertise
  • Maintain existing software, address software defects and change requests
  • Create technical documentation
  • Keep up-to-date with latest technologies
  • Communicate progress and problems to management, estimate and lead project work schedules and anticipating and avoiding problems
  • Provide operational support and respond to operational issues; perform troubleshooting and help restore nominal operations; document any software development changes required

Qualifications & Experience


  • Seniority will be based on experience
  • 8-10 years of experience and a Bachelor’s degree, 6-8 years of experience and a Master’s degree, or 4-6 years of experience and a Doctorate degree in in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (a combination of education and experience will be considered)
  • Proficiency in programming languages including Python, Golang, C/C++, Java
  • Proficiency in object-oriented design and development
  • Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining Cloud native applications
  • Proficiency with Agile methodologies and tools including Jira and Confluence
  • Fluency in English, other languages are beneficial
  • 10% domestic and international travel



  • Experience with Azure
  • Experience with Kafka
  • Experience with DevOps tools including: Git, Jenkins, Ansible, Docker (or equivalent)
  • Experience with SQL and NOSQL data storage technologies
  • Experience with both Linux and Windows
