Implementation Engineer Service - Maritime

The Implementation Engineer Service offers Level 3 Field support to in service customers vessels when a Field Engineer is deployed for maintenance or small non-project upgrade works.  The incumbent also acts as a SME for the project management wing of the team during pre-implementation and implementation phases of the project.  Additionally, this role controls field resources for both project, or in service visits, and acts as the Quality and Health & Safety conduit into the business from the field for Maritime Cruise.

  • Create, track, and implement preventative maintenance plans and allocate resource to affect the successful delivery of same on-board customer vessels within the required maintenance period.
  • Active contributor for the development and maintenance of procedures, and best practices to support team activities.
  • Part the team that is to, define, refine, and optimize the GS Incident process, focusing primarily on the deployment, control and recovery of Field Engineering assets.
  • Offer guidance and support to Field Engineers to resolve complex problems or design issues.
  • Support the effort to ensure Field Engineering resources, capabilities and capacity are in place to meet current and future business demands
  • Work efficiently as part of a multidisciplinary team, acting as the lead focal point for fault rectification when Field resource is deployed on a customer vessel/site.
  • Deliver reporting against KPI’s for Maritime maintenance activities.
  • Internal technical point of contact for Maritime pre-implementation and implementation remote site-specific tasks in support of the Implementation Project Management Team
  • Responsible for the organisation, deployment, management and welfare of contractors, partners and SES Field Service staff for In Service Maintenance activities and small in-service projects/upgrades
  • Review, correct, and approve Invoicing submissions from partners/vendors for In Service works and direct Accounts/Administrator on the correct cost coding.
  • Manage the Field Pool and make available resources for both in service and project deployments
  • Task, brief, deploy, control, manage and recover Field resources for In Service activities.  Report to NOC and other internal stakeholders on prescribed progress and report on exceptions to other L# or L4 teams to realign or renew the planned activities.
  • Support the project team for the acceptance/validation of site survey information, the approval of the complet-ed installation validation checklist, IDP and all remote site “as build” documentation.
  • Provide SME technical support to Lead to Order (LtO) team to identify & scope an opportunity solution
  • When called upon - design and specify custom solutions for implementation for segment
  • Locate FS partners that can scale manpower for regions/segments across MEO & GEO
  • Local relationship management of onboarded partners.  Provide metrics for partner service quality meetings
  • Maintain high levels of quality and safety for all remote sites during OtF (supporting project team) and In Service tasked visits
  • Identification of competency and input to Field Engineers training requirements
  • Other tasks or projects, as assigned by line manager



  • Formal qualification in Satellite Communications preferred but not essential
  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline, or relevant equivalent experience
  • 8-10 years telecoms/satellite industry experience
  • 5+ years’ experience in field operations essential
  • Supervisory experience in a satellite installation environment essential - preferably in maritime installations
  • Experience of running teams of contractors working in field environment
  • Experience of site working practices and site knowledge required
  • Experience in working direct with external customers and vendors
  • Full and clean driving license
