Gateway Infrastructure Engineer

The Gateway Infrastructure Engineer is a key member of the SES Gateway Operations team, providing technical assistance in the areas of ground systems operations, maintenance, and system adaptation and enhancement. The engineer’s primary objective is to ensure SES customers are provided the highest quality service, through supporting Ground Operations, NOC staff, gateway services providers, and customers in troubleshooting and problem resolution. Frequent travel to gateway facilities to perform corrective and preventative maintenance, equipment installations, and system upgrades is required.



  • Maintain Ground system with a clear focus on SES’ HTS GEO, SES-17, mPower, Microsoft EOS gateway stations within the Americas
  • Assist in the maintenance, repair, and logistics of Gateway systems, procedures, and tools
  • Technical interface to third-party gateway vendors providing GEO compatible antennas, RF components, and baseband equipment; coordinating corrective actions and product improvements
  • Provide engineering/ operational leadership in the testing, monitoring, and ongoing support of the Ground Infrastructure at third-party SES Gateway stations located within the Americas
  • Work with Ground Operations and local third-party gateway site personnel on problem identification and resolution, perform root cause analysis, and support logistics functions for defective parts return and repair by vendors
  • Work in a team environment, sharing information seamlessly across the group

  • High level of computer literacy across various platforms, good mechanical and electrical diagnostics and troubleshooting ability




  • BS in Engineering or equivalent experience with communications satellite systems
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the satellite and/or telecommunications industry
  • At least 5 years of experience in developing and/or maintaining satellite terminal systems or satellite-based networking & data systems, with VSAT experience a plus
  • Experience troubleshooting, operating, and maintaining local and remote baseband, IF, RF, antennas, and WAN/LAN equipment
  • Solid working knowledge of Satellite Communications Baseband, Network Management, and Modem systems equipment
  • Experienced in developing and maintaining high availability satellite or telecommunications systems through the use of manned and unmanned facilities
  • Complete understanding of GEO telecommunications satellite technologies and systems
  • Previous Ka-Band systems experience is a plus
  • Working knowledge of IP routing, networking and some scripting or software development a plus
  • Language skills: English fluency, Spanish a plus




  • Ability to easily travel nationally and internationally, up to 50% of the time
