ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

SES is looking for a talented Spacecraft Engineer to join an international and talented team of Engineers responsible for the health and monitoring of the spacecraft Power and Thermal subsystems across the SES fleet of GEO and MEO satellites. In this role, you will become part of an EU and US based team that is at the forefront of providing engineering and operations support to the full satellite lifecycle, from new satellite procurement through launch, orbit raising operations, on-orbit operations, and re-orbit.

 

This position is ideal for a recent graduate from a technical Master's Program who has a strong understanding and interest in spacecraft design and operations, familiar with MATLAB or Python for coding solutions to enhance our spacecraft performance monitoring and analytics toolkits. * This position is based in Virginia (US). Eligible applicants to the US based location must be a US Citizen, a Green Card Holder, or who can otherwise meet federal export-control authorization requirements.


You will be responsible for (this is not an exhaustive list):

  • Providing Spacecraft Electrical Power & Thermal expertise to nominal and contingency operations of the satellites, including 24/7 on-call support as part of the team. You will train as part of a team across multiple satellites operated by SES such as Airbus, Boeing, Lockheed, MAXAR, Northrop Grumman, Thales.

  • Proactively monitoring the Electrical Power & Thermal subsystems to identify degraded performance, anticipate scenarios, and take appropriate action. Developing and maintaining tools for evaluating and trending health to maximize satellite safety, availability and longevity.

  • Performing required engineering analyses, modelling of the spacecraft Electrical Power, Thermal Subsystems, and Survivability

  • Providing specialized support to new satellite construction programs, orbit raising operations, and development of the ground products required for satellite operations

  • Interfacing with internal and external parties in relation to the responsibilities of the subsystems, such as external Satellite Manufacturers and internal Fleet Development teams

 

YOUR PROFILE

1. Must Have

  • Master’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering or Electrical, Electronics, or like field (a combination of experience and education will be considered)
  • Strong understanding of the overall satellite design, operations, and testing with focus on power and thermal subsystems
  • Computer software skills, including Matlab and/or Python
  • Commitment to deadlines and willingness to meet the needs of a 24x7 on-call environment, which can require out of hours support and response under pressure to contingency situations
  • A valid driver license is essential for on-call support
  • Fluency in English

  • Experience in satellite operations and/or procurement
  • Sense of initiative and a self-starter attitude
  • Willingness to work and build presence within a team that includes remote management and team members situated at multiple SES sites
  • Analytical skills and problem-solving spirit
  • Ability to acquire detailed technical information within pre-defined deadlines and apply it in day-to-day situations
