Engineer, Station Support

In this role, you will provide first-level technical support for all customer service/ teleport operation, installation, and maintenance processes at an earth station. You will be responsible for the monitoring, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance for satellite communications equipment at Earth Stations located throughout the Western Hemisphere. You will be responsible for maintaining service throughput for unmanned aerial vehicles, cruise line services, in-flight internet, and several humanitarian missions.

Extended Job Description:


  • Assist the site manager in daily operations oversight and provide operational continuity in manager’s absence
  • Manage inventory and periodic reporting
  • Training employees, contractors, and other affiliates on site specific equiptment and proceedures
  • Complete daily activity reports, maintain department documentation, and prepare/update diagrams
  • Fabricate, install, maintain, and repair of the radio-frequency (RF) equipment used in large-scale satellite downlink and uplink operations; such as waveguide assemblies, cables, and fiber-optic systems
  • Perform component-level troubleshooting required on High-Power Amplifiers (HPA), fiber-optic systems, upconverters, downconverters, RF switching units, Antenna Control Units (ACUs), Low-Noise Amplifiers (LNAs), and Low-Noise Block Downconverters (LNBs)
  • Maintenance and repair on large transmit/receive and receive-only satellite antenna systems
  • System level and bench level electronics troubleshooting
  • Read and interpret schematics, assemble wave guide systems, efficiently utilize sophisticated test equipment, perform documentation tasks, and successfully interact with management & engineers
  • Perform complex on-site installation, preventative maintenance and routine repair of electronic and electromechanical equipment such as: up/down converters, HPA's, fiber optic subsystems, LNA/LNB's, antennas, IP, and Baseband equipment (modems, multiplexers, DVB, and Broadband technology platforms) and video systems
  • Maintain, monitor, and configure High Throughput Satellite (HTS) equipment
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues remotely, provide instruction via email or phone, and test repair equipment through remote Monitoring and Control (M&C) equipment
  • Build, repair, calibrate, and modify electrical components, circuitry, controls, and machinery
  • Install, calibrate, and maintain integrated computer/communications systems consoles, simulators, and other data acquisition, test, and measurement instruments and equipment to launch, track, position, and evaluate air and space vehicles

  • 6-8 years of experience and a Bachelor's degree in RF Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field (equivelant combination of experience and education will also be considered)
  • Ability to work on call
  • Ability to lift 50lbs, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces
  • Experience with SATCOM, broadband, telecommunications, digital video, HTS, and TCP/IP 
  • Ability to read RF and Electrical Drawings
  • Experience working as satellite communication technician
  • Experience working at a teleport or earth station


  • Experience creating RF drawings and diagrams
  • Ability to solder small components, wires, and cable connectors
