Role Description Summary

 

As a Senior Solutions Engineer, you will be the technical point of contact for a regional Sales team. You will also be a key member of the Solutions Engineering Team, providing guidance and planning in aspects of defining, developing and improving solutions for customer’s service requirements, using the full suite of SES products and services. This includes GEO Wide & HTS satellite assets, ground networks and third party, where applicable. The Senior Solutions Engineer will be responsible for solution design and technical support which impacts the performance of SES. Mentoring and training are key components of the role. You will provide an elementary role in the sales acquisition and service delivery process, ensuring the Sales revenue targets.

Primary Responsibilities / Key Result Areas

 

  • Support regional/segment Solutions Engineering team to ensure that technical solutions are presented clearly and address commercial considerations.
  • Utilize Solution Engineering tools portfolio. Maintaining documentation and providing training where applicable.
  • Prioritize and assign workload in accordance with commercial commitments.
  • Suggest innovative working practices and adaptable solutions.
  • Manage and respond within challenging guidelines to Request for Proposals/Information (RFP/RFI) and associated tenders.
  • Support optimized technical service solutions and prepare technical proposals in support of sales requests with a detailed understanding of the customer’s service requirements, business environment and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) drivers.
  • Perform engineering analysis guidance to determine how new and existing services can be optimized.
  • Challenge legacy processes/solutions/procedures based on assimilated data and present alternate efficient options.
  • Prepare, compile and present customer presentations on service solutions, systems design and standard products.
  • Develop and provide training to customers, both internal and external, on SES Video services and products.
  • Design value-added digital media solutions for content management and delivery.
  • Support operational trials and demonstrations, enhancing the customers knowledge of SES products.
  • Support Marketing Department as technical author when required (Case study prep, and application notes etc.).
  • Represent SES Video at trade shows and industry conferences by presenting and supporting panel discussions.
  • Actively work with customers to advance their business with SES by identifying new and innovative applications.
  • Track and understand new satellite access, contribution, distribution, broadcasting schemes, hybrid terrestrial models, customer or third-party technical design and integration at baseband and RF level. Understand their role and impact on the SES Video architecture to support end-to-end services.
  • Actively support Product Development and associated stakeholders in understanding customer requirements required to grow their business and contributes to competitor analysis.

 

Competencies

 

  • Technical knowledge: Established proficiency in satellite transmission analysis and complex solution engineering. Established knowledge of satellite design, satellite signal propagation analysis, Contribution, Distribution and Broadcasting technologies, Basic VSAT networks concepts, network architecture, access schemes, data networking. Working knowledge for GEO satellite solution technical design from capacity only solutions to fully managed services.
  • Advanced Knowledge of the main DVB and SMPTE standards, Video transmission Industry dominant technologies, formats and standards, Video over IP protocols like RIST, SRT, SMPTE 2022 family, SMPTE 2110 family. Sound knowledge of playout, recording and storage architectures on-prem and cloud based. Familiarity with OTT platforms and the relevant architectures. Practical and theoretical experience for cloud based solutions.
  • Good Negotiation & Communication skills: Ability to assist Sales in creating winning technical proposals. Excellent presentation techniques and effective sales proposal skills. Ability to supervise and work effectively in structured or virtual teams.
  • Excellent Customer Relation skills: Build and maintain relationships with customers guided by the capture team, to retain and grow revenues and margins. Ability to gain a clear understanding of the customers’ business and requirements and be able to offer the customer innovative advice on future product developments or services, that could lead to new revenues and/or to service optimizations.
  • Market intelligence & new technology developments: An extensive ongoing knowledge and understanding of the market and developments in the customer base. Specific trends or shifts in the market need to be monitored, tracked, analyzed and reported to management or other departments of the organization.
  • Regional knowledge: With customers and staff located in different regions of the world, it is key to understand the variances within the region or segment, and as such the differences in market settings, leading technologies and players, customers’ expectations & requirements to be able to determine the different necessary strategies. 
  • Analysis knowledge: Ability to optimize technical solutions in specialized segments/regions for the Solutions Engineering team. Established technical knowledge to impact annual revenue figures. Challenge vendors with technical roadmaps to meet SES requirements.

 

Qualification & Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering/Communications/Computer Science.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant Solution Engineering experience Video production, distribution, or Broadcasting via satellite, terrestrial, cable, OTT, IPTV or cloud market.
  • Good knowledge and experience on GEO satellite services.
  • Good theory and practical experience with design and optimization of video formatting chains.
  • Established knowledge of satellite transmission analysis and optimization, satellite access technologies and earth station components.
  • Established experience on the design and architecture of Video distribution networks, including troubleshooting faults and service difficulties.
  • Proficiency in playout solutions and specifically in cloud-based playout and solution engineering.
  • Knowledge of the audio-visual media industry, Broadcasting technologies, DVB, OTT, OVP, IP, VoD.
  • Knowledge about CDN and Azur Microsoft is required, Azur certification is advantage.
  • Knowledge about content management is advantage.
  • Regional and segment market experience and business cultural awareness.
  • Native in English is essential, Arabic speaking is required while French is additional features.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and sales proposal skills.
  • Willing to travel internationally and meet directly with clients.
  • Ability to work effectively in a global high energy multicultural team.
