Team Leader, Satellite Link Engineering

ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The incumbent is the primary managerial technical point of contact for the satellite link technical analysis team or Link Engineering team supporting the Solutions Engineers globally. The incumbent provides supervision for the team members in all aspects of defining, developing and implementing link budget calculations (MEO & GEO), transmission planning and authorization, CRM database entries, ground station and remote VSAT sizing, including the required leadership in operational support and assistance in preparing customer presentations.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY RESULT AREAS

  • Team Management
    • Provide the conduit to Senior Management for the Link Engineering team in prioritizing tasks and handling routine and prioritized tasks
    • Organize and facilitate training sessions for the Link Engineering team, ensuring all members complete the necessary training and achieve a uniformly high standard Collaborate with the Solutions Engineering team to provide additional training for any team members in need of further development
    • Coach and mentor team members to deliver and exceed expectations

 

  • Technical Service Solutions
    • Maintain existing customer frequency allocations, including satellite carrier or lease changes, transmission plan activation, transponder management and maintenance using SES software tools
    • Collaborate with the Payload Management Operations Team (PMOC) and Network Operations Team (NOC) in coordination with the Solutions Engineering team to engage in operational tasks
    • Provide technical inputs to assist the Solutions Engineering team with both informal and formal sales requests, as well as formal RFPs, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the customer’s service needs, business environment, and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) drivers
    • Track and understand new satellite access schemes, earth station antenna design, and wireless and network technologies, systems, and applications
  • Assist internal stakeholders in understanding customer needs related to follow-on satellite architectures, new product types, ground terminal developments, service cost models, beam placements, and customer service support.

  • Ability to collaborate and share information in a clear, concise, accurate, and timely manner and to lead by example with your direct reports when sharing information
  • With supporting regional teams located in different parts of the world, it is key to understand the variances within the region and as such the differences in market settings, customers’ expectations & requirements to be able to determine the different necessary strategies
  • Working effectively with others to achieve common goals. Ability to motivate and inspire a team to meet and exceed performance objectives
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal teams and demonstrate the ability to gain a clear understanding of the customers’ businesses and requirements and be able to offer guidance that could lead to new sales and/or to service optimizations.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor in Electrical Engineering/Communications/Computer Science  
  • Proven experience in managing technical teams locally
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience as well as experience in directly supporting Indian and Global markets
  • Extensive knowledge and experience on GEO and MEO services
  • Proficiency in satellite transmission analysis and complex solution engineering. Extended knowledge of satellite design, broadcasting technologies, VSAT networks, network architecture, access schemes, data networking, engineering software development and radio frequency propagation analysis
  • Experience within the Telco/ISP/MNO segment, including Solutions experience either within primary Telco operators or suppliers; Hands on knowledge of the design and architecture of Enterprise and Telecommunications Networks, including Mobile Backhaul; access networks implementation and operation including troubleshooting faults and service difficulties
  • Knowledge of English is essential
