Role Description Summary

As the Engineer, Service Monitoring, you will be responsible for the management and support of tools and systems deployed to support and manage SES services and infrastructure. will work closely with SES operations and engineering teams on the shared goal of improving operational efficiency, service quality and customer experience. The Engineer will assist operations in solving service anomalies in the RF (Ground/Satellite), IP and platform domains, analytics and automation. The incumbent will be required to build and manage service support and reporting systems that contain a high degree of intelligence and autonomy.

 

The incumbent will be, as part of a team, responsible for the integration of managed service monitoring architectures in the enterprise data, mobility, and video domains. The position also carriers the expectation that the incumbent shall fully engage with SES next generation services (HTS GEO/MEO/LEO) on a technological and service delivery level.

 

The incumbent shall also support other SES operational systems involved in the service delivery chain such as contribution, distribution and management networks, all of which have global scope. The incumbent will be expected to work with Network Management Systems (NMS) from multiple vendors in the IP, ground infrastructure and network domains.

Primary Responsibilities / Key Result Areas

  • Ensure that service monitoring systems are highly available, accurate and fit for purpose
  • Work closely with partners in OSS/BSS domains in the setup and maintenance of API interfaces and data flows
  • Capture and process monitoring, SSA and automated reporting requirements from operations teams, and from SES customers when required (customer portal services)
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of new systems, software and services.
  • Drive service and infrastructure data analytics capabilities across the SES group
  • Identify and implement systems to introduce greater automation in daily operation
  • Ensure SES management and monitoring systems are kept up to date and fit for purpose
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders in the service delivery process
  • Plan and coordinate maintenance and configuration change activities
  • Provide technical support to customers when required
  • Perform systems and service acceptance tests when required
  • Support the development of operational tools and systems

  • Good working knowledge of communications technologies, database systems, software architectures and API interfaces
  • Proven track record in platform/server management and trouble shooting
  • Good knowledge of Satellite communications techniques (GEO/MEO/LEO)
  • High level of and operational awareness and ability to work independently
  • Ability to autonomously manage and coordinate complex operational tasks and projects
  • Strong customer focus and attention to detail
  • Good written and oral communications skills
  • Software tool development background (preferred…C#, Java, Python, Shell, JavaScript)
  • Unix/Linux system understanding (preferred…Systems Administration/Deployment experience)
  • SQL/MySQL Database experience
  • Ability to troubleshoot application and infrastructure systems
  • Experience with RESTful interfaces. JSON, SOAP, SNMP, etc.
  • Good understanding of System Engineering principles and techniques
  • Experience working with networks and remote systems

Qualification & Experience

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in IT, Telecommunications, or similar field (BAC +3, BSc) required (education can be substituted for experience)
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ combined experience in an operations or engineering position
  • Good level of demonstrable experience in the field of Information Technology, Communications Systems, IP networks or the broadcast video environment
  • Good knowledge of service (data/video) platforms and associated systems
  • Knowledge of application interface protocols (SQL, XML, REST, SNMP etc.)
  • Proven track record in service support and implementation
  • Proven experience in programmatic interface usage and application
  • Good knowledge of DataMiner monitoring and orchestration platforms.
