ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

As the Engineer, Platform Engineering, you will be responsible for developing requirements of VSAT-Platforms and modems, conducting their testing and validation, and deploying new platforms and products. This role supports both GEO and MEO constellations and involves collaboration with various SES departments such as Product and Innovation, Sales, and Operations, as well as with Platform Vendors. Your goal will be to deliver the highest quality platforms to support our customers. This position requires a self-driven individual who can make significant contributions in a fast-paced environment

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY RESULT AREAS

  • Development requirements for MEO and GEO platforms and modems systems from new product definitions with providing technical leadership
  • Support Product and Innovation in translating innovative product initiatives into reality
  • Engage with partner vendors of MEO and GEO platforms and modems to ensure their system fulfil product requirements and comply with the SES ecosystem
  • Develop test plans to support the validation of MEO and GEO platforms and modems to ensure they meet the technical, functional, performance, and business requirements

 

  • Test and validate vendor provided system for the SES ecosystem and ensure high availability and reliability of these systems
  • Create operations handover documentations that describes SES Networks specific configuration, commissioning procedure, troubleshooting guides, and CONOPS
  • Deploy new product development into existing MEO and GEO platforms and modems
  • Manage deployment of MEO and GEO platforms and modems expansions
  • Validate other platform solutions SES operates in his worldwide network
  • Deploy ground systems in a lab environment, run test plans, and generate test reports
  • Evaluate and recommend third-party test tools to aid with systems test efforts
  • Drive technical defects and bug resolution with our partner vendors
  • Deploy platform and modem software upgrades and major configuration changes
  • Provide technical support to our operational team
  • Provide training and support as required to other technical staff
  • Support a community of practice around the platform development across the company

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • BS/MA degree engineering, computer sciences, IT or similar
  • 7+ years of experience in VSAT platforms like iDirect, Comtech, Gilat, Newtec, or others
  • The 7 years include following areas of knowledge
    • Experience of Satellite RF communications systems
    • IP protocols, TCP, UDP, RTP, routing protocols, and switching
  • Strong knowledge of QoS and WAN optimization techniques including TCP acceleration, caching, and compression
  • Basic experience with Unix system environment
  • Certifications in one or multiple of the above-mentioned platforms technologies or other industry certifications are preferred
  • MEO satellite experience is a plus
