VIE PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION

At SES our ambition is to do the extraordinary in space in order to deliver amazing experiences everywhere on earth and we would not be able to do this if it wasn’t for the amazingly talented SESers!

This is a one-year contract in conjunction with Business France a part of the VIE (Volontariat International en Entreprises) scheme that allows young people from France and the European Economic Area (EEA) to launch their international career!

In this VIE mission, you will be a part of the Satellites Manufacturing Team in a fast-paced, growing organization within a dynamic industry.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

The Manufacturing Engineer for Products owns the buildable satellite product definition and acts as the primary interface between engineering design and manufacturing execution. This role translates program and design requirements into a complete and authoritative manufacturing definition, including MBOM, assembly procedures, configuration rules, and production data structures. The ME-Product ensures that the product is fully defined, manufacturable, and executable within MES, enabling consistent, compliant, and efficient production across assembly, integration, and test.

As a V.I.E - Manufacturing Engineer, Product, you will be responsible to:

  • Own the buildable product definition by translating program and design requirements into manufacturing-ready structures.
  • Create and maintain the Manufacturing Bill of Material (MBOM) aligned with EBOM, configuration rules, and production needs.
  • Define and maintain assembly sequences, work instructions, and manufacturing procedures.
    · Provide the authoritative product structure and manufacturing data to MES for execution, traceability, and automation.
  • Ensure consistency between design intent, configuration control, and production implementation.
    · Support Assembly, Integration, and Test (AIT) by resolving product definition issues impacting buildability or execution.
  • Coordinate product-related changes across engineering, quality, planning, and production.
    · Support non-conformance resolution by assessing product definition impacts and proposing corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance of the manufacturing product definition with applicable aerospace and space standards.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of product structures, documentation quality, and MES integration.

COMPETENCIES

  • Strong understanding of product industrialization and manufacturing product structures.
  • Experience managing MBOMs, configuration rules, and assembly definitions.
  • Solid knowledge of satellite or aerospace assembly, integration, and test processes.
  • Ability to translate complex design requirements into executable manufacturing definitions.
  • Structured, detail-oriented approach with high documentation discipline.
  • Effective coordination across engineering, production, quality, and planning functions.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
  • 3-8 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, product industrialization, or production engineering.
  • Proven experience defining MBOMs, assembly procedures, and manufacturing product data.
  • Hands-on experience with MES, PLM, and ERP systems.
  • Familiarity with space hardware production and AIT environments is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of configuration management principles and change control processes.
  • Understanding of ESD, contamination control, and cleanroom manufacturing standards.

OTHER KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • As part of a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing organization, you will be expected to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability as project requirements evolve, and new challenges arise.
  • In a role closely connected to cross-functional project teams, you will be expected to think strategically and ensure that operational decisions consistently align with broader organizational goals.
  • Within a complex technical environment, you will be expected to apply strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities to address issues efficiently and maintain operational continuity.
  • In a multidisciplinary production setting, you will be expected to communicate clearly and effectively (both verbally and in writing) to facilitate seamless collaboration across engineering, production, quality, and leadership teams.

To participate in the Volontariat International en Entreprise (VIE) program, you need to meet several criteria:
