Technician, Station Support
The Technician, Station Support (SSG Team) covers the ground communications systems and power system operations on a 24/7 basis. The incumbent maintains and operates the SES ground assets in Betzdorf and other third-party sites globally. This includes support to third party teleports that are contracted for TT&C and payload services.
SSG also acts as first-line intervention to the Betzdorf power and HVAC systems during out-of-office hours and provide “hand and eyes” support to hosted customer equipment.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY RESULT AREAS
- Perform preventative maintenance and routine repair of electronic and electromechanical equipment
- Support engineering and program management to provide specifications, measurements, hardware evaluations, risk assessment, and environmental factors
- Perform system to component level troubleshooting in response to any ground system anomaly that causes a payload communication or a TT&C outage or disturbance
- Restore services with the least possible delay
- Work in a 24/7 shift pattern to provide continuous service support to SES global customers
- Provide operation reports on technical activities
- (Re)configure the Betzdorf teleport to provide backhaul, signal processing and uplink services to customers
- Support the various satellite ranging systems ensuring continuity of accurate data provision to the Flight Dynamics team
- Participate in LEOP (Launch and Early Orbit Phase) operations as well as satellite relocations for SES satellite missions and other operators
- Support SES internal & external customers, including, equipment hosting, engineering and Sales
- Take 1st line responsibility outside normal office hours for infrastructure systems
- Ensure all IT security measures and procedures are followed.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Technician diploma or degree in a relevant technical discipline (Telecommunications, Electronics, RF…)
- Awareness of Earth Station systems, equipment and operations as well as aptitude to handle related hardware in a professional manner
- Excellent system diagnostic skills
- RF knowledge including RF signal routing and processing (waveguide, IF and RF switching, filtering and combining, linearisation etc.), amplification (TWTAs, KPAs, SSPAs), frequency conversion, antennas (drives, tracking etc.) is an asset
- Knowledge of IP networks, platforms and Internet infrastructure (BGP/DNS/IPV6 etc.) and/or Broadcast systems and technologies (DVB/Multiplexing/Contribution/Distribution) would be an advantage
- Minimum 2 years of experience in similar role or in a satellite operations NOC-based role
- Fluent in English.

- Security clearance. The incumbent must be willing to undergo a security clearance.
