Software Engineer, Operations Support

ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

 

O3b mPOWER is SES next generation NGSO constellation. Adaptive Resource Control (ARC) Software is a critical component of the O3b mPOWER architecture. As an Operations Support Engineer, you will support the operational support to the software in production. As part of the ARC development team, you will develop understanding of system functionality, assist in testing and release of new features.

The key activities associated with the role are: participation in definition of technical requirements, updating technical description documents, and participating in testing, release and operations of next generation software systems.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY RESULT AREAS

 

  • Act as L3 On-Call Support for ARC Operations, being the escalation path for mission operational issues and troubleshooting of operational software
  • Troubleshoot service availability issues with Mission Operations and communicate with the development team for resolution
  • Perform software unit testing and integration tests for new release of software
  • Preparing change requests, bug reports for problems encountered in software operations
  • Participate in design reviews, test activities and review of technical documentation for software systems
  • Participate in developing test procedures and scripts to ensure new architectures are properly vetted in the lab or in over-the-air testing
  • Effectively communicate the operational status of software in production to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Support the transition of the new release into operations and training of operators
  • Other ad-hoc tasks

 

COMPETENCIES

 

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, other languages considered an asset
  • Motivated to learn complex systems and technologies
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Conflict resolution and stakeholder management, communicating up and down the escalation path
  • Ability to work at in a fast-paced and high stress environment, respond quickly to problems encountered in operations
  • Ability to travel, up to 20% of the time, including international travel

 

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  • Ability to provide 24/7 on-call support and provide technical assistance to Mission Operation
  • Experience in operating and testing software for high-reliability applications (Communication Systems, Satellite Control Software, Mission Critical Systems)
  • Knowledge in programming, at least one of following languages:
    • C++
    • Python
  • Knowledge or experience with CI/CD tools, preferably Azure DevOps will be appreciated
  • Domain knowledge/experience in one or more of the following areas: NGSO Satellites, Telecommunications, Data Communication, RF/Antenna Systems, will be a plus but not required
