Senior Manager, Teleport Monitoring Systems

Role Description Summary

The Senior Manager, Spectrum Monitoring Systems leads a team that is responsible for the operations, configuration, upgrade, and maintenance of SES’ spectrum management systems; The global carrier monitoring system (CSM), geolocation system (SAT-ID) and other interference mitigation systems (eg. SatGuard).

 

The incumbent will drive the operations requirements for the system development with the IT monitoring engineering team and maintain and operate all teleport spectrum monitoring systems. He support the liaison with vendors and SES O&E teams for maintenance and upgrades, coordinating site installation and testing as required. The appointee will also support other projects and activities affecting the Teleports Operations and the Customer Operations to provide best in class systems and services for SES’ operational teams, directing the development and delivery of operational training, procedures and best practices to operations staff. The incumbent will identify process and system improvements that assist the operational teams in enhancing customer services, and work with SES groups or vendors to achieve the identified improvements

The position ensures the operational systems under this position’s responsibility provide a high level of customer support and service provision, leading to the delivery of best in class services on the SES global satellite network in accordance with KPI’s as specified by the Organisation

 

Management of Global Services spectrum management engineering teams based in Europe and US.

 

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Management of the configuration, upgrade, systems administration, inventory, and critical opera-tional data, necessary to maintain high availability and high accuracy of the spectrum measurement systems
  • Maintain the highest level of operational and technical knowledge in the domain of spectrum management systems in order to act as a systems expert in supporting 24/7 operations
  • Ensure that spectrum management operational tools are appropriate and effective for their tasks
  • Build and lead a team of SME’s, define interfaces with internal/external stakeholders and establish group scope
  • Ensure Teleports and O&E compliance with performance requirements including all SLA’s and KPI’s.
  • Manage a framework of policies to collate and maintain metrics of operational performance across the systems, identifying and implementing process improvements as necessary
  • Support development of the Global Services CAPEX and OPEX budget process. Evaluate all re-quirements ensuring O&E  adheres to overall budget targets, seeking efficiencies & savings where possible
  • Timely reporting of metrics and KPI’s as it relates to project status, highlighting risks and escalat-ing issues where necessary
  • Provide the framework for the evaluation, testing, deployment, and maintenance of custom and third-party software applications which are used solely for operations
  • Direct the development of training material, operating procedures, and troubleshooting proce-dures, related to monitoring systems or other system tools, and provision teaching/training to the 24x7 operational teams, and to other groups across the organisation
  • Coordinate with Engineering departments for the specification, design, development, testing and acceptance of new hardware and software systems
  • Lead Teleports efforts at vendor meetings and negotiations, related to system and service development, upgrade, operations and maintenance; provide Teleports requirements of vendor services and equipment.

  • Willingness to support 24/7/365 operations, providing out of hours support as necessary

 

 

Qualification & Experience

  • An engineering degree or equivalent academic/professional qualifications
  • At least 15 years of professional experience within a payload operations, satellite engineering or managed service environment, with a background in technical operations management or equivalent experience of the mentioned areas in a wider business context
  • A proven track record of managing and motivating a team of engineering experts, collegially operating at senior staff levels and across departments
  • Demonstrated management skills in a multicultural environment
  • Experience managing complex global projects, involving external parties
