Senior Engineer, Systems Engineering - Performance & Operations

Role description summary

The Senior Engineer, Performance and Operations contributes to the business optimization of SES Networks by reviewing system performance, identifying best practices and implementation gaps and by taking action to resolve those gaps. 

You will develop system analysis methods, report regularly on system performances and propose improvements having a direct impact on SES revenues and profitability.

You will lead technical implementation projects associated with the automation of system resource optimization, instill high quality standards of service to all SES stakeholders and coach other team members in their development.

 

 

Primary responsibilities / Key result areas

Studies & Analysis

  • Develop and recommend tools to capture, collect and produce analytical data allowing to profile system performance in term of KPIs with business impact
  • Based on performance analysis, propose system changes improving performance of SES client’s systems
  • Define, secure and prepare datasets for statistical modelling with the support of SES Operations
  • Incorporate findings and provide industry and competitor insights as part of model development and enhancement
  • Propose new developments and enhancements to the SES software suite to assist with modelling and analysis of customers systems

 

Mobility Platform Optimization

  • Respond to Sales and Sales Engineering requests, by running parallel simulations to optimize the capabilities of Shared Capacity System
  • Work with operations to forecast and mitigate potential issues
  • Propose developments that will allow system improvement and unlocking of Mbps in the Shared Capacity system and enhancements to better forecast operations issues and meet the needs of all stakeholders (NOC/SOC, Operations, Asset Management, Systems Engineering and Sales Engineering)

 

Operations

  • Support Network and Operations when investigating complex problems related to the SES systems and acts as subject matter expert for Operations on SES software related platforms
  • Proactively audit and report customer network performances at regular intervals to ensure compliance to the SLA and up-to-date configuration status (including Gateway, Terminal, software, resources, IP, maintenance and sparing) and liaise with Operations and Sales Engineering to confirm proper and optimal configuration of each user service
  • Contingency Planning: identify O3b system contingencies and develop mitigation plans to minimize customer impacts and maximize restored service capacity

 

Demonstrations / Training / Coaching

  • As a Technical lead, you will plan and execute operational demonstrations, exercises and rehearsals to demonstrate system performance and operational readiness and increase the operational awareness
  • Provide technical support for sales (technical briefings to key customers)
  • Provide training and coaching to new employees or specific SES teams / colleagues
  • Represent SES Technology at industry events

Qualifications & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Telecommunications or equivalent field, coupled with professional vocational training and qualifications
  • At least 7 years of professional experience in relevant field in satellite industry
  • Expertise in Telecommunications Satellite Systems including VSAT systems, RF systems, SATCOM Baseband, satellite ground-based antennas, Network Management, and Modem systems equipment
  • Complete understanding of GEO, MEO and LEO telecommunications satellite technologies and systems
  • Highly experienced in developing and maintaining high availability satellite or telecommunications systems, using manned and unmanned facilities
  • Experience handling technical development projects
  • Coding and Database management skills are a plus
  • Fluency in English

 

 

Other Key RequIrements / Comments

  • This position may require travelling internationally from time to time.
