Requisition Number:  19416
Contract Type:  Permanent
Location(s):

Betzdorf, LU

Senior Engineer, Embedded Digital Electronics Systems (ASIC/FPGA), IRIS2

PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION

IRIS² is the new European Union secure satellite constellation. This project is the European Union's answer to the pressing challenges of tomorrow to provide secure connectivity services and enhanced communication capacities to the EU and its Member States as well as to governmental users, private companies and European citizens while ensuring high-speed internet broadband to cope with connectivity dead zones.

SES – together with other consortium partners and core members – has been selected by European Commission to build and to operate the IRIS² multi-orbit satellite constellation.

As the project enters its next phase, our team is expanding to support the development of future services and products enabled by the IRIS² system. We are now seeking skilled professionals to help shape the service provisioning landscape and ensure the successful deployment of cutting-edge satellite connectivity solutions.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

As a Senior Embedded Digital Electronics Systems Engineer specializing in ASIC and FPGA design, you will play a pivotal role in the development and integration of digital systems for satellite platforms. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the delivery of robust, high-performance, and space-qualified digital solutions that meet stringent industry standards. As a member of an agile project organization, you will be expected to bring a flexible way of working and an adaptive mindset to a dynamic development environment.

As a Senior Embedded Digital Electronics Systems Engineer, you will be responsible to :

  • Steer the design, development, verification, and validation of embedded digital systems using ASIC and FPGA technologies for satellite applications requiring high-speed computing capabilities under demanding space constraints.
  • Perform and contribute to design and performance trade-off analyses under tightly constrained environment.
  • Collaborate with internal and external systems engineers, software developers, and hardware teams to integrate digital electronics within satellite subsystems.
  • Review RTL code (VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog) and contribute to synthesis, timing closure, and implementation flows, as required.
  • Perform, monitor and steer, as required, the review of simulation, functional verification, and debugging of digital designs using industry-standard tools.
  • Control compliance with space qualification standards and demanding embedded space environment constraints, perform radiation mitigation design reviews and analyses.
  • Interface with suppliers, partners, and cross-functional teams to meet project schedules and develop technical solutions meeting the systems objectives.

  • 7+ years of experience in digital ASIC and FPGA design, preferably within aerospace, satellite, or defence sectors.
  • Proficiency in hardware description languages (VHDL, Verilog, SystemVerilog).
  • Strong experience with FPGA design tools (e.g., Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus) and ASIC design flows.
  • Familiarity with satellite systems, space-grade components, and radiation-hardened design practices.
  • Solid understanding of embedded systems, digital signal processing, and high-speed digital interfaces.
  • Knowledge of RF or mobile networking (e.g. 5G) technologies is desired.
  • Experience with verification methodologies (UVM, Testbenches) and debugging tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Strong communication skills and experience leading technical projects.
  • Strong ability to work independently and with limited supervision in complex environments, including multi-stakeholder projects
