PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION
IRIS² is the new European Union secure satellite constellation. This project is the European Union's answer to the pressing challenges of tomorrow to provide secure connectivity services and enhanced communication capacities to the EU and its Member States as well as to governmental users, private companies and European citizens while ensuring high-speed internet broadband to cope with connectivity dead zones.
SES – together with other consortium partners and core members – has been selected by European Commission to build and to operate the IRIS² multi-orbit satellite constellation.
As the project enters its next phase, our team is expanding to support the development of future services and products enabled by the IRIS² system. We are now seeking skilled professionals to help shape the service provisioning landscape and ensure the successful deployment of cutting-edge satellite connectivity solutions.
ROLE DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled MEO Satellite Platform Engineer, IRIS2 to oversee & review the development and delivery of the spacecraft bus and engineering work products within the IRIS² programme. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the technical integrity and performance of satellite platforms, working closely with internal teams, industrial partners, and institutional stakeholders.

As a MEO Satellite Platform Engineer, IRIS2, you will be responsible to :
- Provide technical assessment related to platform units and subsystem definition and development, requirements, analysis, trade-offs, budgets, validation and tests
- Identify, assess & mitigate technical risks associated with spacecraft bus, develop contingency plans.
- Review supplier technical data packages for the spacecraft platform units, subsystems and system.
- Lead/participate in design and test reviews: EQSR, PDR, CDR, MRR, TRR, TRB to ensure bus design meets requirements and is production-ready.
- Define and coordinate engineering support activities at system level for all aspects of the satellite bus. Monitor & control interfaces between satellite subsystems (bus/platform) and other mission segments.
- Ensure compliance with system level requirements and ECSS standards
- Contribute to IRIS² program main milestones
YOUR PROFILE
- Master’s degree or PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering or related discipline
- 5+ years of experience in space systems engineering or spacecraft bus engineering.
- Strong knowledge of spacecraft bus systems (power, thermal, structure, avionics, propulsion, GNC, data handling, TTC)
- Experience working with a spacecraft bus supplier and in AIT environment
- Good knowledge of space product and quality assurance processes
- Agile, flexible and able to work across a geographically-distributed teams
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong ability in persuasive and diplomatic communication to inspire collaboration and drive collective goal achievement
- Highly organized, capable of tracking multiple streams of critical activities at once
- Project/execution orientation: able to drive initiatives, handle schedule/criticality
- Knowledge of ECSS standards and ability to apply them in supplier oversight
- Eligibility to obtain security clearance
- Willingness to travel (supplier visits)
- Languages: English work fluent, German or French is a plus.
- Strong ability to work independently and with limited supervision in complex environments, including multi-stakeholder projects
- Flexibility and adaptability in response to evolving project requirements and dynamic environments
- Ability to think strategically and align project goals with organizational objectives
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong ability in persuasive and diplomatic communication to inspire collaboration and drive collective goal achievement
- Strong leadership leveraging proven project and team management skills
- Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies
OTHER KEY REQUIREMENTS / COMMENTS
- The candidate must be eligible for a “SECRET” security clearance, in accordance with the “loi modifiée du 15 juin 2004 relative à la classification des pièces et aux habilitations de sécurité”, as well as EU/ESA/NATO equivalents
- Willing to work at least 60% onsite from office
- Travel as required for project realization purposes
