Manager, IRIS2 System CONOPS

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

 

IRIS2 is the new European Union secure satellite constellation. This project is the European Union's answer to the pressing challenges of tomorrow to provide secure connectivity services and enhanced communication capacities to the EU and its Member States. In addition, as well as to governmental users, private companies and European citizens while benefiting from ensuring high-speed internet broadband to cope with connectivity dead zones.

 

SES – together with other consortium partners and core members - was selected by the European Commission to build and to operate the IRIS2 multi-orbit satellite constellation.

The IRIS2 team enters next project phases, we seek and there is a strong need of support for all the activities around service provisioning and products that the system can offer in the future.

Role description 

 

The position holder is in charge of defining the concept of operations for the IRIS2 system which will also be used for SES commercial business.

 

This role implies the interaction with multiple teams within SES, directly or indirectly involved in the IRIS2 project. It also implies interaction with IRIS2 partners.

 

As a member of an agile project organization, you will be expected to bring a flexible way of working and an adaptive mindset to a dynamic development environment.

 

 

AS A Manager, IRIS2 System CONOPS, YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE TO :

 

  • Define the IRIS2 concept of operations, applicable to both the EU sovereign services and the SES commercial services.
  • Define high-level mission objectives of the IRIS2 based on the overall system requirements.
  • Describe the end to end architecture of the IRIS2 and the role of each subsystem, including space segment, ground infrastructure and user segments. Provide a detailed description of each subsystem and their operations. Describe communication protocols between subsystems.
  • Develop an overall system overview, including objectives, configuration, and expected performance metrics.
  • Leverage system architecture definition to create an, detailing interactions between the space segment, ground segment, and user segment.
  • Identify and describe all operational scenarios, covering different mission phases and contingency operations. Describe daily and periodic operational procedures.
  • Define roles and responsibilities for operations, mapped to existing or new teams within SES.
  • Elaborate operational performance requirements, including operational performance metrics and success criteria for operations and functionality.
  • Assess cost trade-offs in all aspects of the definition phase to optimize operational cost efficiencies.
  • Identify and provide the need for roles and associated job descriptions not available at SES for the development phase.
  • Contribute to overall system Capex and Opex evaluations.
  • Generate and report identified risks in the form of risk registers.

YOUR PROFILE

  • Master’s degree in engineering or science field required, preferably telecom engineer
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
  • Proven experience in hardware/software development
  • Proven experience in end to end systems integration
  • Strong experience in end to end satellite systems engineering
  • Strong experience with satellite ground station operations and network management
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken, any other European language is considered as an asset 
  • Strong ability to work independently and with limited supervision in complex environments, including multi-stakeholder projects
    • Flexibility and adaptability in response to evolving project requirements and dynamic environments
    • Ability to think strategically and align project goals with organizational objectives
    • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
    • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Flexibility and adaptability in response to changing project requirements and environments

  • In-depth knowledge of satellite communication systems with an end to end view

OTHER KEY REQUIREMENTS / COMMENTS

  • The candidate must have a valid “SECRET” security clearance, in accordance with the “loi modifiée du 15 juin 2004 relative à la classification des pièces et aux habilitations de sécurité”, as well as EU/ESA/NATO equivalents
  • Travel as required for project realization purposes 
  • Understanding of space-based security architectures
  • Experience on NGSOs
  • Ready to work at least 60% of the time in the office
