Junior Technician, Ground Operations

You will act as a technical support to the Ground Operations team, covering ground communications systems equipment maintenances (preventive and corrective) and supporting second level operations for the SES ground assets in Luxembourg and in other third-party sites globally, with the goal to provide uninterrupted communication with the satellites. The range of transmissions including Direct-to-Home (DTH) services, data services as well as telecommand to GEO and MEO spacecraft.

 

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for ensuring SES has sufficient operational spare equipment for its global operations located at key teleports (Europe, Asia, Australia, Mexico), by verifying that data collection on equipment usage and availability is accurate, and that the backup functionality is active - and takes actions to achieve this.
  • Respond to any ground system equipment anomaly that causes a payload communications /TT&C / Orbit Determination outage or disturbance. Restore the equipment with the least possible delay and ensure spare equipment is immediately available on a global scale.
  • Execute bench repairs or “return merchandise authorization” process with vendors to recover failed equipment
  • Support external customers
  • Pro-actively maintain the Betzdorf and backup stations in an excellent state. Perform detailed station regularly
  • Ensure all stakeholders follow the correct “Authorization to Work” process
  • Monitor lifecycle of equipment with focus on adequate equipment failure prediction
  • Contribute to the department’s expenditure is kept to a minimum and as efficient as possible.

 

YOUR PROFILE

  • Technician qualification / degree in a relevant field (Telecommunications / Electronics / Networks…)
  • First hands-on experience as a Technician or Operator
  • Knowledge of Earth Station systems, equipment and operations
  • RF knowledge including RF signal routing and processing (Waveguide, IF and RF switching, filtering and combining, linearisation etc.), Amplification (TWTAs, KPAs, SSPAs), Frequency conversion, Antennas (drives, tracking etc.)
  • Knowledge of MPEG/DVB encoding and multiplexing, FM and QPSK modulation considered an advantage
  • Understanding of TT&C and satellite operations
  • Good system diagnostic skills
  • Experience with Dataminer considered an advantage
  • Team player
  • Self-starter and strong customer focus
  • English fluent
  • Ability to get NATO security clearance. The incumbent must be willing to undergo a security clearance
  • Ability to work at height.
