O3b mPOWER is SES’s next-generation Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellite-based communication system offering high-bandwidth, low-latency data connectivity services to under-served and mobility markets. Launching in 2021, the system will begin its service life in 2022. Building on the capabilities of our current O3b MEO system, O3b mPOWER expands exponentially to deliver thousands of dedicated services up to multiple gigabits per second. It provides more flexibility than any satellite-based system available today or planned for the foreseeable future.


The Junior Software Engineer, Full Stack will develop operational software components and solutions for the automated remote control of the SES Ground Gateway systems.


  • Technical understanding of ground gateway systems or strong motivation to acquire it is important to be effective in the position.
  • Excited about space technology and experienced in front-end and back-end software technologies.
  • Curious and up to date with latest technologies and forward thinking.

Primary Responsibilities/Key Result Areas:


  • Develop, test and maintain operational software for the automated remote control of the SES Ground Gateway systems
  • Develop and execute automated BDD (Behaviour-driven development) testing


Who We Are Looking For (More About You):


In order to achieve the outcomes described above, we believe you will have the following:




  • Talented in communication
  • Strong foundation in computer science and a wide range of experience in many aspects of software development (design patterns, application development, network authentication, security systems, microservice architecture, layout technologies, browser testing and debugging, web development)
  • Ability to work within an Agile/Scrum ecosystem (or strong motivation to learn agile/scrum ecosystem)
  • Automate the development lifecycle by employing Continuous Integration (CI) / Continuous Deployment (CD)


Preferred Education & Experience (a combination of education and experience will be considered):


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering
  • 0-1 year of relevant work experience
  • Working with Git and GitLab
  • Fluency in English


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Expert knowledge in programming in at least one of the following languages (our current development is based on Go, if you don’t have relevant specific knowledge on Go SES will offer required on-job training):
    • C/C++
    • Python
    • Java
    • Go
  • Comfortable working with the following technologies and toolchains:
    • Linux OS
    • Familiarity with databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, NoSQL
    • Interface layers: Kafka, REST, gRPC, ZMQ
    • TCP/IP networks
    • Web servers (e.g., Apache, NGINX)
    • Virtualized & containerized app deployments
  • Understanding of cloud orchestration tools, technologies, and API standards (AWS, Azure, Google, Cloud, Kubernetes)
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
