Internship - Systems Engineering, Performance & Operations

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of the Systems Engineering - Performance & Operations team in a fast-paced, global organization within an innovative and unique industry. Our team is in the heart of SES Networks activities, designing complex customer services and overseeing system performances analysis and report. Our role is also to support and advise on the development of SES future systems architecture including dynamic resource management and multi-orbit services.

Based in The Hague (Netherlands) or Betzdorf (Luxembourg), you will contribute to the digital transformation of SES Networks by identifying best practices and implementation gaps and by taking action to resolve those gaps. The incumbent will help the digital transformation of the team activities, participate in the development and automation of system analysis and reporting. The intern will propose improvements having a direct impact on SES revenues and profitability.
The incumbent will lead technical implementation projects associated with the automation of system resource optimization. These projects will involve multiple SES teams within Technology, SES Networks and other relevant SES entities.


Extended Job Description:



  • Enhance the Power BI portal to automate the measurement of SLA compliance for SCS vessels. Possibility to extend it to other services and applications.
  • Support the automation of MEO Line-ups in Cruise Beam Management project
  • Develop/complement a Power BI portal to report long-term SLA statistics, detect trends, and provide a comprehensive view of current status and more critical items. To be coordinated with Operations Engineering, CSM, and Quality assurance.
  • Support the development of the Adaptive Resource Control (ARC)  system for O3b mPOWER, the next-generation Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellite system:
    • Mock-up and example of the user interface expected inputs and outputs (with dummy data).
    • Development of use cases to validate complex cases, especially related to cruise.
  • Continue the ASPM simulator improvements to accommodate new use cases (multiple transponder configuration modes, new modems, new optimization and algorithm rules, etc.).
  • Support the modeling of existing assets (e.g. Earth Stations, Modems, etc.) from O3B classic in the new databases to be used in mPower (SRI, etc.).
  • Various activities supporting the team activities that include:
    • Preparation of MEO Line-ups for standard services.
    • Preparation of SCS simulations to assess potential commercial opportunities, system load, and possible optimizations.
    • Design activities for Cruise Market such as updating itineraries, generate KML files, generate link budget analysis, etc.
  • Contribute to the HTS GEO dashboard application existing on LEGO environment
  • Assist team members in various projects. This would depend on the candidate's skill set.



  • Being an advanced Bachelor/ Master’s student in Aerospace/Telecommunication/Computer Science/Software Engineering or in a relevant technical area
  • Strong interest in the space/media/telecommunication business and technical interest in satellites
  • Familiarity with at least one language and platform such as HTML, Python, Flask, Javascript, LUA, Linux and MySQL Ability to set priorities and to work under tight deadlines
  • Experience in software development in a multidisciplinary team using version control tools (Git preferred)
  • Interest in complex problem solving and bringing solutions to the table
  • Experience of Microsoft Azure Cloud environment is an asset
  • Easiness to communicate at all levels
  • Fluency in spoken and written English with additional languages considered an asset
  • EU-nationality or work permit for The Netherlands or Luxembourg
