Internship - Software Engineer, EAGLE-1 Key Management System

ROLE DESCRIPTION 

Join SES with this exciting internship opportunity to become part of an interdisciplinary team and learn more about the telecommunications and space industry within a fast-moving global organization within an innovative and unique industry.

 

Under the agreement with ESA, the SES-led consortium of industry partners will design, develop and validate in-orbit technologies for space-based quantum key distribution (QKD) and operate the EAGLE-1 satellite to securely connect countries in Europe.

 

Under the guidance of our lead software engineer, participate in the C++ development of the EAGLE-1 Key Management System (KMS) that will manage the EAGLE-1 on-board persistence and satellite distribution of optical quantum-keys.
 


RESPONSIBILITIES

Your responsiblities include, but are not limited to:

  • The development of a Key Management System (KMS) – a C++ application developed both for the space and the ground segments;
  • The integration of this KMS application with other components in the respective target environments in space and on ground;
  • The implementation of unit tests and configuration of continuous integration pipelines;
  • Troubleshooting and bug fixing open issues.
     


YOUR PROFILE

1. You must

  • Be a Bachelor's or Master's student in Computer Science, Information Technology, or relevant technical area.;
  • Good understanding of algorithms and data structures;
  • Fluency in spoken and written English;
  • Able to work in Luxembourg (EU-citizenship).

 

2. It would be nice if you had 

  • Hands-on experience with Linux, and C or C++ development;
  • Good understanding of cryptography concepts (encryption and authentication algorithms, key distribution protocols).
  • Excellent analytical and judgment skills;
  • Ability to set priorities and to work under tight deadlines;
  • Work independently as well as in a team;
  • Strong interest in clean coding and testing.
  • Additional languages considered an asset
