Intern, meoSphere System Modeling (HPC)
ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Are you looking for a 6‑months internship? This is an opportunity to be part of the Modeling and Simulation team in an innovative satellite organization. Modern satellite constellations and 5G NTN systems require large‑scale, computationally intensive simulations, making high‑performance computing a critical enabler for realistic and timely analysis.
Based in Betzdorf, Luxembourg, you will focus on scaling and accelerating a constellation simulator dedicated to 5G NTN and Optical Inter‑Satellite Links. You will collaborate with specialists in simulation, software engineering, and aerospace to improve performance, scalability, and efficiency for projects such as mesosphere and IRIS2.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY RESULT AREAS
Collaborate with the team on the design and implementation of performance‑critical simulator components, primarily in Rust, with selected components in Python. Identify computational bottlenecks and apply HPC techniques to accelerate large‑scale simulations. Implement and evaluate parallelization, optimization, or acceleration strategies (CPU, multi‑threading, or GPU‑based where applicable). Benchmark and profile simulator performance across different scenarios and configurations. Contribute to making the simulator scalable and robust for realistic constellation and 5G NTN workloads.
COMPETENCIES
- Proficiency in Rust and/or Python
- Proficiency with DevOps tools (e.g. git)
- Strong command of spoken and written English.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong interest in high‑performance computing, performance optimization, large‑scale simulations and low‑level performance considerations.
- Basic exposure to parallel computing, profiling, or optimization techniques (academic or practical).
- Familiarity with Linux environments and development tooling.
- Interest in telecommunications or 5G NTN systems, with willingness to learn domain‑specific concepts.
In addition, it would be nice if you had:
- Exposure to parallel or performance‑oriented programming (multi‑threading, vectorization, or GPU concepts).
- Experience with profiling, benchmarking, or optimizing code in academic or personal projects. Interest in large‑scale simulations, high‑performance systems, or computational modeling.
OTHER KEY REQUIREMENTS / COMMENTS
- Authorization to work in Luxembourg
