ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The context of this internship is the setup and configuration of open-source software that emulates a 5G NTN link based on available code and configuring this in an end-to-end simulation test environment such that specific NTN link scenarios can be simulated on this software link with configuration files.

This internship is suitable for bachelor’s or master’s degree engineering and science students, eager to work on Linux open-source software and to configure a telecom link emulation environment for satellite communications.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY RESULT AREAS

  • You are responsible for setting up and configuring an open-source link simulation environment based on Linux and open-source user terminal and base station code
  • Setup and configure the software environment for end to end 5G-NR NTN link simulation
  • Include a satellite link channel emulator in the software setup
  • Configure satellite link specific channel impairments and define test scripts for the link simulation
  • Automate link test procedures of a 5G NTN test link including a User Equipment emulator, a channel emulator and a base station emulator in 5G NR-NTN setup
  • Familiarize and set up open source 5G UE and gNB link test code
  • Use Linux/C++/Python and scripting languages to automate test configuration and results collection
  • Work in the Future Business and Innovation team within SES Engineering in Betzdorf, Luxembourg
  • Work in the 5G team on a 5G NR-NTN link simulation, which aims to set up an end-to-end link simulation over a satellite channel

COMPETENCIES

  • Strong interest in Linux and Open-Source software experience is an important basis
  • Some coding experience is an advantage, C++, Github, Python
  • Self-driven, highly motivated learner and practical problem solver
  • Fluency in spoken and written English with additional languages considered an asset
  • Work permit for Luxembourg required (EU Citizen or Student work permit eligible)

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • You are a student in either Engineering or Science, such as Computer Science, Electronics or Electrical Engineering, Information Technology or in a scientific/engineering area
