Engineer, Spacecraft Subsystem

We are looking for an Engineer to join the ADCS and Propulsion Subsystems team in Luxembourg! In this role, you will join a team of experts located in the US and Luxembourg, whose mission is to provide engineering and operations support to the full satellite lifecycle for the attitude control, data handling and propulsion subsystems across the SES fleet of GEO and MEO satellites.


Your mission will encompass from new satellite procurement through launch, on-orbit operations, and re-orbit. It begins from the procurement phase, where you will support the new satellite acquisition by providing your expertise on ADCS and Propulsion topics. In addition, your days consist of spacecraft health and monitoring tasks, as well as scheduled maintenances for your own subset of satellites. In this role, you will get to work closely with other Satellite Engineering and Operations teams in SES, and ensure together the health of our fleet.


You will be responsible for (this is not an exhaustive list):

  • Provide spacecraft attitude dynamics and controls, propulsion and data handling operational expertise to operations of the SES satellite fleet
    • Provide 24/7 on-call support in case of escalations
  • Evaluate and monitor satellite health and performance by analysis of telemetry data
    • Analyze all satellite malfunctions and anomalous behaviour, and follow-up with manufacturer where needed
    • Utlize data for predictions and forecast
  • Develop and validate procedures and software tools related to satellite operations
    • Ensure that Satellite Operations teams are up-to-date with your area
    • Ensure smooth integration of new satellites into the operations of the existing fleet
    • Identify and develop areas where machine learning can be utilized to further automate operations
  • Provide engineering support for the new satellite procurement, for example in requirement definition, proposal evaluation and negotiation, as well as design analysis




Must Have

  • Master's degree in (Space) Engineering, with a specialization in aerospace or dynamics and control system theory and application
  • Minimum 2 years' of experience in a similar role, or a combination of studies and closely related internships
  • Proficiency in Matlab or Python; additional knowledge in computer or data science are beneficial
  • Knowledge of Space Dynamics and/or Spacecraft Attitude and Control
  • Understanding of the Attitude Control and Propulsion Subsystems
  • Ability to work in a 24/7 on-call environment
  • Good analytical skills
