Engineer, IRIS2 Service Assurance Systems

IRIS2 is the new European Union secure satellite constellation. This project is the European Union's answer to the pressing challenges of tomorrow to provide secure connectivity services and enhanced communication capacities to the EU and its Member States as well as to governmental users, private companies and European citizens while ensuring high-speed internet broadband to cope with connec-tivity dead zones.

SES – together with other consortium partners and core members - was selected by European Commission to build and to operate the IRIS2 multi-orbit satellite constellation. 
The IRIS2 team enters next project phases and there is a strong need of support for all the activities around service provisioning and products that the system can offer in the future. 


ROLE DESCRIPTION:

You will be part of an agile project organization where a flexible way of working and an adaptive mindset is required.   

You will be responsible for engineering and preparing the end-to-end service assurance tools and systems critical to IRIS2. In this role, you will work closely with operations and engineering teams to ensure measurable service quality, optimal operational efficiency, automated KPI reporting, and ex-cellent end-user experience across IRIS2’s multi-orbit satellite communication infrastructure. Your focus will include the implementation of IRIS2 service assurance systems to support data services delivered via LEO and MEO satellites, by collaborating with the IRIS2 Service Operations work group.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Incident & Problem Analysis, Performance Analysis & Reporting
    • Identify the service performance data to be analyzed (e.g., availability, latency, throughput) in order to identify trends and proactively address potential issues. Spec-ify an assurance system in line with the target KPIs, as well as with the operational needs
    • Target automated reporting capabilities for IRIS2 services, ensuring visibility into key metrics for both technical teams and management stakeholders.\\\
    • Contribute to engineering and planning operational models for identifying, triaging, and resolving anomalies in satellite, ground, and IP networks, leveraging SSA (Satel-lite Service Assurance) and analytics capabilities to minimize service disruptions. Document and specify all in the assigned deliverable contributions in time and quality.
  • Continuous Improvement & Automation
    • Identify and bring ideas for the next generation methods or technologies that in-crease operational efficiency, reduce manual intervention, and improve end-to-end service delivery.\
    • Work closely with partners in the Service workgroup and in the adjacent teams to align IRIS2 assurance processes with the wider SpaceRISE objectives.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Transfer
    • Produce high-quality, structured documentation as contribution to IRIS2 and SES in-ternal and external deliverables, detailing system specifications and configurations, processes, and best practices for the IRIS2 service assurance environment.
    • Prepare for the later move of IRIS2 programme from the engineering to the deploy-ment to the operational stages.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Build and maintain alignment with SES strategy in IRIS2, as well as strong relation-ships with SES internal departments, IRIS2 Consortium partners, and external part-ners (vendors, customers) to ensure alignment on service assurance goals.
    • Collaborate with regulatory, security, and compliance teams to ensure systems and processes meet relevant standards and requirements, in line with the directives of your official and functional managers.

  • Good knowledge of application interface protocols (SQL, XML, REST, SNMP etc.)

  • Strong understanding of System Engineering principles and techniques

QUALIFICATIONS BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in IT, Telecommunications, or similar field
  • Minimum 5 years’ combined experience in an operations or engineering position\High level of demonstrable experience in the field of Information Technology, Communications Systems or IP networks
  • Proven track record in service support and implementation
  • Proven experience in programmatic interface usage and application
  • Strong software tool development background (preferred: Python, Shell, JavaScript)
  • Strong SQL/MySQL database experience
  • Fluency in English (any other language being an asset
  • Eligibility for ESA/EU SECRET personnel security clearances is essential. Candidates must be prepared to undergo a security clearance procedure, as this position may require holding such a clearance
  • Willing to work at least 60% onsite from office
  • Travel as required for project realization purposes
  • Willing to support a rotation based 24/7 on-call role
