Engineer, IRIS2 Mission Operations Assurance

IRIS2 is the new European Union secure satellite constellation. This project is the European Union's answer to the pressing challenges of tomorrow to provide secure connectivity services and enhanced communication capacities to the EU and its Member States as well as to governmental users, private companies and European citizens while ensuring high-speed internet broadband to cope with connec-tivity dead zones.

SES – together with other consortium partners and core members - was selected by European Commission to build and to operate the IRIS2 multi-orbit satellite constellation. 
The IRIS2 team enters next project phases and there is a strong need of support for all the activities around service provisioning and products that the system can offer in the future. 

 

ROLE SUMMARY

This role is a fixed-term 12 month contract. You will be part of an agile project organization where a flexible way of working and an adaptive mindset is required.   

You will be responsible for the definition and the monitoring of the operations mission assurance program, including the specifications and processes to ensure operations success.
By using respective tools, you will develop automated KPI reporting with the aim to increase the quality and efficiency of SES MEO and LEO satellites. 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Engineer and prepare operations of MEO/LEO satellite payload, ground payload control, resource orchestrator, 5G Core Network and all the ground components functional to deliver services, with focus on the monitoring, measurement and reporting of the relevant KPIs
  • Engineer efficient and reliable measurement methodologies, based on the next-generation automation tools, to characterize the health and load status of the service-support system.
  • Coordinate within the Operations and Service workgroup within the SpaceRISE Consortium, while keeping strong synchronization with SES-internal departments to guarantee alignment in operational models and business objectives
  • Contribute to deliverable documents, as assigned, by pursuing timeliness and quality. Contribute to and support the preparation and the development of meetings and discussions with internal and institutional stakeholders
  • Prepare for the later deployment of the operations

COMPETENCIES

  • Ability to work independently and with limited supervision in complex environments, e.g. project or matrix organizations

    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Good knowledge of Satellite communications techniques
  • Good knowledge of application interface protocols (SQL, XML, REST, SNMP etc.)
  • Very high level of operational awareness
  • Strong understanding of System Engineering principles and techniques


QUALIFICATIONS, BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in IT, Telecommunications, or similar field
  • Minimum 5 years combined experience in an operations or engineering position
  • High level of demonstrable experience in the field of Information Technology, Communications Sys-tems or IP networks
  • Proven track record in service support and implementation
  • Proven experience in programmatic interface usage and application
  • Strong software tool development background (preferred: Python, Shell, JavaScript)
  • Strong SQL/MySQL database experience
  • Fluency in English (any other language being an asset)


OTHER KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • The candidate must be eligible for a “SECRET” security clearance, in accordance with the “loi modi-fiée du 15 juin 2004 relative à la classification des pièces et aux habilitations de sécurité”, as well as EU/ESA/NATO equivalents
  • Willing to work at least 60% onsite from office
  • Travel as required for project realization purposes
  • Willing to support a rotation based 24/7 on-call role
