Engineer, Ground Systems

ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

 

In this role, you become part of the innovative US and European based team that focuses on the end-to-end design and development of the SES GEO/MEO ground systems.  You will be a key member of a cross functional team of innovators and problem solvers, working on unique multi-orbit solutions that will enable millions of people to stay connected.

 

The Engineer, Ground Systems will implement the ground systems and TT&C Infrastructure for SES GEO/MEO satellites being part of a team of cross functional engineers for the development, design, implementation, and end to end operations of the SES/Customer Ground Gateway systems.

 

Extended Job Description:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY RESULT AREAS

 

  • Implement RF earth station solutions including antennas, High Performance Antennas (HPAs), switch matrix, up/down converters, modulators, inter-facility connection equipment and Co-location space
  • Implement the integration of measurement, communications and monitoring and control systems (including Service IOT and M&C Systems)
  • Perform transmission analysis and studies in support of business development and customer services in particular link/level budget calculations, development of Excel VBA/Software based tools, block/design drawing and other detailed studies in support of gateway ground systems
  • Perform and participate in ground system integration and test and operational validation of the ground segment, including generation of test plans and procedures and participation in system acceptance testing, ground readiness tests and network readiness tests
  • Perform remote configuration, management and troubleshooting of gateway infrastructure
  • Support the transition of the new products into operations ensuring the proper tools and training are in place
  • Coordinate end-to-end RF service commissioning at global SES gateway locations across internal teams and customer representatives
  • Define, specify, and report on Key Performance Indicators applicable to Service Fulfilment and Service Assurance for SES Gateways and Teleports
  • Develop procedures and perform periodic calibration of ground systems.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

 

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 to 5 years of experience in Electrical Engineering, RF Engineering, Telecommunications, or similar field
  • Experience with "hands-on" engineering in the satellite communications domain as Development, Systems Engineer or Operations Engineer, Test & Integration Engineer
  • Experience across fixed, and mobile earth stations and teleport/gateway solutions for video/data transmissions (including some of the following: antenna, HPA, waveguide, switch matrix, converters, modulators, electrical & optical inter-facility links as well as DVB or VSAT / broadband or broadcast platforms), content/data/IF/RF spectrum measurement
  • Operational experience of ground gateway systems and software systems / Monitoring & Control systems, Network Management Systems
  • Experience with MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio), AutoCAD, Excel VBA
  • Familiar with Windows and Linux operating system, virtualization platforms
  • Experience with GEO, MEO, and/or LEO Satellite Ground Systems
  • Fluent in English.

 

 

OTHER KEY REQUIREMENTS / COMMENTS

 

  • Ability to travel, up to 25% of the time, including international travel.
