Engineer, Digital Ground Development

ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:
The Digital Ground Development Engineer is directly involved in supporting modem platforms virtualization and digital integration with Gateway and remote terminals and assisting on designing SES’ ground segment digital transformation. In this position you will be engaging with internal and external stakeholders, while working on the cloudification of the ground equipment, network function virtualization and look into potential synergies/adoption with the cellular infrastructure (5G NR and OpenRAN).
You will be responsible for (this is not an exhaustive list):
• Support the design, build and delivery of next gen virtualized modem platforms and digital interfaces for SES next gen cloud-ready satellite ground segment
• Define digital modem platform specifications (RFI/RFP) and work closely with equipment manufacturers. Analyze/evaluate/drive vendor technical approach to reach goals
• Engage on various key industry standards body (DIFI, 5G, etc)
YOUR PROFILE:
Must Have
- Master's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field
- Theoretical understanding of satellite communications and sub-systems involved in the end-to-end delivery of satellite links (network, modem platform, gateway, satellite, and user terminals) and latest standards
- Understanding of hardware-based requirements of software defined radios (SDR), e.g., FPGA size, sample rates, dynamic range, radio chip architecture, gain and filtering as the signal progresses within the SDR
- Willingess to apply for a European secret clearance
Nice to Have
- Knowledge in PHY and MAC layers of cellular standards (e.g., GSM, LTE, 5G)
- Expertise in implementing DSP algorithms in FPGAs
- Familiarity with evaluating SDR platforms and specifications
