(Senior) Specialist, Insurance

As our Insurance Specialist, you will lead non-space insurance activities of the SES Group. You will also provide programme management and technical support to space insurance activities and will be responsible for the SES Captives actuarial key function. You will be expected to work in close coordination with the Finance, Technology, Corporate Development, Legal and Commercial departments of SES.


Extended Job Description:



  • Manage the placement of non-space insurance policies (general property, general liability, cyber risk, aviation products liability, transport insurance, construction and rendering, pollution and remediation, business travel insurance etc)
  • Manage non-space insurance contracts, including claims management
  • Manage the non-space insurance broker relationships
  • Provide insurance support to commercial bid teams
  • Support the development of space (launch and in-orbit) insurance policy wordings
  • Lead the development of launch and in-orbit insurance Technical Appendices for all SES satellites
  • Be the main point of contact with Technology for all satellite fleet health issues; manage the underwriters’ technical questions and answers process and anomaly notifications
  • Lead the organisation of yearly technical insurance briefings to the insurance community
  • Ensure that appropriate Export Control authorisations and Non-Disclosure Agreements are maintained with brokers and insurers at all times
  • Lead the Actuarial Function of the SES Captive (re)insurance companies and perform actuarial analyses in compliance with the Solvency II Directive and in support of Transfer Pricing activities
  • Act as backup to the Manager, Insurance for the placement of the pre-launch and in-orbit third-party liability insurance policies
  • Act as backup to the Manager, Insurance on aspects related to SES Captives Corporate Governance, including Business Planning, Board Meetings, investments, accounting and audit activities
  • Act as backup to the VP, Insurance on aspects related to the design and mathematical modelling of (re)insurance coverages

  • 3 - 5 years of space or insurance industry experience
  • Master’s degree in finance, engineering, applied mathematics, statistics or actuarial sciences (professional actuarial certification would be a plus)
  • Practical knowledge of at least one of the following fields: insurance, contract management, telecommunication spacecraft payload design
  • Working experience with probability, statistics, stochastic modelling and decision theory
  • Overall understanding of the space industry
  • Insurance market knowledge
  • Knowledge of business law as it applies to contracts
  • Knowledge of U.S. technology transfer and export control regulations



  • Fluency in English (French would be a plus)
  • Ability to deal with various parts of the organisation including Finance, Technology, Corporate Development, Legal and Commercial
  • Ability to manage and control a budget
