(Senior) Engineer IRIS2, Spectrum Management & Development

ROLE DESCRIPTION:
IRIS2 is the new European Union secure satellite constellation. This project is the European Union's answer to the pressing challenges of tomorrow to provide secure connectivity services and enhanced communication capacities to the EU and its Member States as well as to governmental users, private companies and European citizens while ensuring high-speed internet broadband to cope with connectivity dead zones.

 

We are looking for a (Senior) Engineer IRIS2, Spectrum Management & Development to join the new and expanding IRIS2 team in either our Luxembourg or The Hague locations.

In this role, you will leading from a technical point of view the spectrum access aspects of the European project through management of the relevant ITU filings, preparation of the filings technical data and the relevant technical analysis. In addition, you are proposing and implementing coordination strategies with other operators and administrations. The work will be performed in close cooperation with the EMEA spectrum team. The role also includes active participation in the relevant technical work of specific meetings in international bodies like EU, CEPT and the ITU.

Eligibility for ESA/EU SECRET personnel security clearances is essential. Candidates must be prepared to undergo a security clearance procedure, as this position may require holding such clearance.

 

You will be responsible for (this is not an exhaustive list):

  • Spectrum coordination
    • Prepare the necessary ITU filings by taking into account planned characteristics of the IRIS2 constellation
    • Lead/support preparation for and conduct selected coordination meetings for the affected administrations and operators
  • Spectrum development and defence at the ITU​​​​​​​
    • Actively participate to the work of CEPT and the ITU especially for the technical activities linked to the European project. Prepare the required technical studies and defend them during the meetings
    • Analyse the current regulatory environment, propose strategies for improvement if required, and lead the associated work at CEPT and ITU levels. Prepare the required input papers

 

YOUR PROFILE

  • Hold an internationally recognised engineering qualification (e.g. electronics, radio-frequency or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant post-qualification experience
  • Good understanding of the satellite regulatory environment and the ITU procedures; knowledge of NGSO related aspects is considered an additional asset
  • A deep understanding on satellite technologies and applications
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of other European languages is considered an additional asset
  • All applicants must be native to a EU member state and willing to undergo a EU secret clearance process
  • Willing to work at least 66% onsite from office 
  • Travel as required for project realization purposes
