(Senior) Engineer, IRIS2 Network Architecture

ROLE DESCRIPTION  

 

IRIS2 is the new European Union secure satellite constellation. This project is the European Union's answer to the pressing challenges of tomorrow to provide secure connectivity services and enhanced communication capacities to the EU and its Member States as well as to governmental users, private companies and European citizens while ensuring high-speed internet broadband to cope with connectivity dead zones.

 

SES – together with other consortium partners and core members - was selected by European Commission to build and to operate the IRIS2 multi-orbit satellite constellation. The IRIS2 team enters next project phases and there is a strong need of support for all the activities around service provisioning and products that the system can offer in the future. The IRIS2 constellation will also be used for SES commercial business.

 

You will be in charge of defining the project’s ground and space network architecture based on up-to-date technologies (SDN, MPLS, IP, slicing, …) and satisfying mission and product requirements. This role implies the interaction with multiple teams within SES, directly or indirectly involved in the project and the product definition and implementation. You will work in an agile project organization where a flexible way of working and an adaptive mindset is required.  

 

Eligibility for ESA/EU SECRET personnel security clearances is essential. Candidates must be prepared to undergo a security clearance procedure, as this position may require holding such a clearance

You must be prepared to travel as required for project realization purposes.

 

As a Senior Engineer, IRIS2 Network Architecture, you will be responsible to :

 

  • Define the IRIS2 ground and space network architecture
  • Write associated architecture documents and specifications
  • Define implementation and test plans for the proposed subsystems
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements
  • Contribute to the overall project system architecture
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define network requirements and ensure alignment with organizational objectives
  • Generate and report identified risks in the form of risk registers

 

YOUR PROFILE

 

1 - MUST HAVE

  • Master’s degree in engineering or science field required, preferably telecom engineer
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
  • Strong design experience in SDN and MPLS technologies
  • Strong design experience in IP technologies and protocols
  • Good experience of 5G network technologies
  • Experience of network slicing techniques
  • In-depth knowledge of satellite communication systems with an end-to-end view
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.

 

  • Ability to work independently and with limited supervision in complex environments, e.g. project or matrix organizations
  • Flexibility and adaptability in response to changing project requirements and environments
  • Ability to think strategically and align project goals with organizational objectives
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to design and implement SDN solutions for satellite and ground networks
  • Capability to design IP-based network architectures for satellite communications
  • Ability to implement network slicing to ensure service and QoS continuity
  • Ability to integrate various network components and ensure interoperability between them
  • Strong leadership and teamwork skills, with experience managing diverse expert teams
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
