(Senior) Engineer, High-Speed Digital PCB Design, MEO
ProgramME & Role Description
MEO100 is the next generation of SES’s Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellite constellation. It will provide secure connectivity services to governmental entities, private companies, and commercial customers, while delivering high-speed broadband internet to eliminate connectivity dead zones.
We are seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to join our rapidly growing aerospace team. To accelerate schedules, reduce costs, and guarantee quality, SES is internalising a critical segment of the supply chain: the final integration of partner satellite platforms with SES’s software-defined payload, all within a state-of-the-art manufacturing and test facility.
We are looking for a talented and detail-oriented High-Speed Digital PCB Design Engineer to support the design, development, and validation of advanced digital electronics for our NGSO MEO satellite platform. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing complex, high-speed printed circuit boards (PCBs) used in satellite avionics, payload interfaces, and communication subsystems, ensuring performance, reliability, and compliance with space-grade standards.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY RESULT AREAS
- PCB Design: Lead the design of high-speed digital PCBs, including schematic capture, layout, signal integrity analysis, and design for manufacturability.
- Subsystem Integration: Collaborate with system architects and subsystem leads to define board-level requirements and interfaces.
- Simulation & Analysis: Perform pre-layout and post-layout signal integrity, power integrity, and thermal simulations to ensure robust performance.
- Component Selection: Select space-qualified components and manage obsolescence and radiation tolerance considerations.
- Design Reviews: Prepare and present design documentation for internal and external design reviews (PDR, CDR).
- Testing & Debugging: Support board bring-up, functional testing, and troubleshooting during integration and environmental qualification.
- Supplier Coordination: Interface with PCB manufacturers and assembly houses to ensure quality and compliance with space standards.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed design records, BOMs, test procedures, and analysis reports.
YOUR PROFILE
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in high-speed digital PCB design, preferably in aerospace or space applications.
- Proficiency with ECAD tools (e.g., Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, Mentor Graphics).
- Strong understanding of signal integrity, impedance control, differential pair routing, and high-speed interfaces (e.g., DDR, PCIe, SERDES).
- Experience with space-grade design practices and standards (e.g., ECSS, IPC Class 3).
- Familiarity with FPGA and microprocessor-based designs.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Experience with radiation-hardened electronics and mitigation techniques.
- Knowledge of thermal and mechanical constraints in space environments.
- Hands-on experience with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analysers, TDR, etc.).
- Experience in multi-board system integration and EMC/EMI compliance.
- Fluency in English; additional languages are a plus.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
- High sensitivity to customers’ needs and capacity to find solutions to complex technical problems and overcome obstacles to deliver a high quality of service
Other requirements
- The candidate must be eligible for a “SECRET” security clearance, in accordance with the “loi modifiée du 15 juin 2004 relative à la classification des pièces et aux habilitations de sécurité”, as well as EU/ESA/NATO equivalents
- Willing to work at least 60% onsite from office
- Travel as required for project realization purposes
The job responsibilities outlined in this document are not exhaustive and may evolve over time and be reviewed according to business needs.
