ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
You will assure current systems and functionality in the area of RF & DVB and general telecommunications monitoring & control systems. You will also enhance and extend as required, focus on sustained & safe operations of existing real-time software and computer systems.
Software systems are typically built on a highly stable Linux core with basic C/C++ and frontends with standard apache php / javascript implementations and relational databases for data management.
Further aspects cover IT Security compliant implementations, virtualisation, automation and cloudification.
Extended Job Description:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY RESULTS AREAS
- Support current operational infrastructure and legacy systems:
- DVB monitoring ASI & IP
- ASTRA satellite network consistency assurance tools
- Successfully lead the analysis, design, specification and implementation of:
- SES’s Next Generation operational monitoring systems
- Efficiently own, follow-up and implement the related full project life cycles, including:
- requirements collection/definition (for all system aspects of the final function)
- project setup incl. budgeting and budget ownership during the project execution
- project/program management (including design/development or procurement)
- identifying and managing the required resources (e.g. contractors and suppliers) in an integrated approach towards the internal or external stakeholders
- pro-active operational 2nd/3rd level and sales engineering support as required
- This includes the successful deployment (and/or design) of e.g.:
- content/data/IF/RF spectrum measurement and monitoring and control systems
- building of IT infrastructure (in coordination with the IT dept) as required for such ground-based systems
- Global homogeneous, sustainable and scalable solutions
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- A recognized Electrical/Telecommunications Engineering degree (BS/MS or similar)
- Minimum of 5 years post education hands-on experience as a professional Systems Engineering and Software Developer designing, prototyping and installing operational systems. Project Management experience is considered a valuable asset.
- Proficiency experience with the secure and reliable setup of off-the-shelf software, covering Linux, Apache, OpenSSL, SSH, OpenVPN, SQL flavors, Postfix, PHP, HTML
- “Hands-on” experience with hardware-near software development – preferably for DVB related broadcast delivery systems or for audio/video and data processing systems
- “Hands-on” experience with secure networking of off-the-shelf or proprietary highly reliable systems
- Knowledge and expertise in auxiliary systems like Network (IP, switching, routing), Monitoring and Control systems, power, HVAC and civil engineering
- Proven experience in tools like MS 365 suite, Excel (incl VBA), Powerpoint, MS Project, Visio, AutoCad, Lotus Notes, Windows and Linux or similar
- Fluency in written and oral English. Other languages are considered as valuable assets
- Ability and willingness to integrate into an international environment, to travel internationally, and to communicate with international peers and customers
- Demonstrate high self-starter qualities and a high motivation to do projects effectively and autonomously without direct guidance or direct supervision
- Awareness of and ability to evaluate relevant technological developments, market trends, competitive factors, standardization licensing and regulatory aspects
