(Senior) Asset Accountant

ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The SES group makes very significant investments in property, plant and equipment (‘PP&E’) to support the development of its satellite operations and associated businesses and commercial services.

The Asset Accounting team is responsible for maintaining the financial records for this PP&E whether it be bought from third parties, developed using the Group’s own internal resources, or is procured through a combination of both.

As such, the Asset Accountant works closely other Finance departments (such as Tax and Controlling) as well as the Engineering, Procurement, and Logistics teams.

 

Extended Job Description:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY RESULT AREAS

  • To be part of the initial approval workflow for asset procurements ensuring that the required information is to hand, the necessary approvals are complete, and the project is properly set up in the Group’s ERP system to facilitate the initiation of the purchasing activities
  • To monitor project status and ensure that completed projects are closed and brought into use on a timely basis
  • Analysing completed projects and identifying and assigning values, asset classes, and lives to the asset subcomponents of the project
  • Liaise with the Controlling, Engineering, and Procurement teams to ensure proper asset classification.
  • Work with the Tax and Accounting Operations teams, and other stakeholders as required, to ensure that assets are recorded in the right SES legal entity and business site to facilitate timely and comprehensive asset reporting including by location, by country and by entity.
  • Perform monthly closing activities including providing summary reporting for asset additions, retirements, and disposals.
  • Support asset inventory-taking activities including updating the underlying asset records as required.
  • Maintaining consistency checks with the SAP Equipment Ledger where relevant.
  • Support the external and internal audit processes as well as addressing periodic reporting obligations (for example in connection with tax or regulatory obligations).

  • Ability to build relationships cross-functionally and internationally to facilitate efficiency of work.

  • Focus on process improvement and best practice implementation.
  • Flexibility, and ability to deal with strict deadlines and work under pressure.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Associates degree in Accounting or equivalent.
  • 2+ years’ experience in a corporate accounting environment or relevant public accounting experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ERP accounting system required, preferably SAP.
  • Strong Excel / data analysis skills.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
